I'm pleased to say that in May 2023 my Rdunae arrived and it featured four pips either side of 12 on the bezel and no blue tint on the AR coated sapphire. It seems Rdunae have listened to customer wants in a way almost no other manufacturer does and are committed to improving the authenticity to the original design. I now have a Seikosis dial on the way to make a homage which will be tough and inexpensive for use swimming, fishing etc! The build quality is indeed fantastic. @@u.k.9412 This is correct, I snipped the dial feet off with snips, then sanded the remaining down to be flat. I then used shaped double sided dial adhesive strips to stick the dial down which seemed to work fine. I got them from eBay and had to cut them into manageable bits. I've been wearing the watch three weeks now and just got back from a holiday where it went through extreme heat and cold water swimming and everything has been fine. I had to use a mixture of alcohol pens and white gel pen to match the Rdunae hands to the Seikosis dial lume colour but you can also just buy the matched Seikosis hands. It's an awesome mod that I really have enjoyed making and wearing as in my opinion the new Seiko sp317 was quite expensive and had details that I was unsure of. I have an original 6105-8119 “Willard” watch in very good condition that I no longer wear due to its sky rocketing value. But I did buy the Heimdollr homage of this 6105 and was pleasantly surprised at the workmanship including the sapphire crystal, ceramic bezel insert, the NH35 movement, great superluminova lume, and case dimensions that are true to the original. All these up grades for less than $200. This watch is now my favorite beater watch. Seiko must not be too upset about these homage watches since they are selling the Chinese companies their movements.
@Leec_19724 жыл бұрын
A lot of these "SEIKO" movements are actually clones. Sometimes with slightly rougher finishes and sometimes with slightly better than the originals. The movements that are put into the Heimdallr and San Martins etc etc are apparently not SEIKO made, according to one knowledgeable modder. Not that its good or bad (unless they are labelled "SEIKO" of course). I don't think Seiko will really care because when they bring out their version it will be a SEIKO and likely with a much higher price point and lets face it whether you buy this (very excellent) Retangula version or not if you want an actual SEIKO then that is what you'll get irrespective whether you also get this watch or not. I really don't think this watch will dent SEIKO sales but what it will do is provide us enthusiasts with a watch that SEIKO has not yet reintroduced at a price point that SIKO will never match.
@henrygalindo44794 жыл бұрын
@@Leec_1972 heimdallr and San Martin use the NH35 movements that are built and sold to other manufactures by a Seiko owned company SII (Seiko instruments inc.). So these movements won’t have the name Seiko on them but will have the “SII” stamped on these movements. The NH35 movements are the exact same as the Seiko’s 4R35 movement without the Seiko branding. If the Chinese brand watches had a clone, it would typically have its own Chinese model number designation.

@@henrygalindo4479 I know about the SII unbranded movements and have a NE15 (6R15) SII movement in a modded SKX myself. I was excited when the re-issue was announced, then immediately disappointed because of the huge price of it. Way too expensive. Then Seiko announce another, more mainstream version. More affordable. Great, I could set money aside and get one of those. Then of course I start seeing all the videos about the case shape not being true to the original. So now I'm not going to get one. The Rdunae second hand is significantly longer than the original (~2+ mm). On one hand, this is a functional improvement over the original insofar as the hand actually hits the second markers on the dial. This also perhaps requires greater assembly precision as any minor misalignment will be immediately obvious. The tradeoff... ...Aside from a deviation from the original, the 'stoplight' tip of the Rdunae design can obscure the hour markers as it passes over them when viewed underwater. Furthermore, because the Rdunae's second hand drapes completely over the minute hand, if a diver unluckily times when he glances at his watch, the top of the minute hand can be obscured when the second hand sweeps past, making the minute hand more difficult to distinguish from the shorter hour hand.

On the caseback...yes, threading is the same, but thread length will be different because the NH35 is using the stock grey non-diver movement spacer which is 1mm thinner than the diver movement spacer used on the 7S or 4R in the SKX or SRP Turtles. As a result, the movement won't be as snug with that spacer caseback combo. The threads on the Rdunae are longer to compensate for the thinner spacer. Those of us who mod our SKXs with NH36 have been dealing with this for years by swapping spacers. However, there are plenty of aftermarket casebacks available for the stock NH3x spacer.

Hi Spencer. Trolls suck. I've concluded that FaceTwitterChat should be collectively called anti-social media. That's discussion for another day however. Your passion for Seiko is remarkable, but expecting faithful reissues may be unrealistic. Companies rarely do so, and not just in horology. To be successful a company must continually move forward. I believe that this is what Seiko is doing whether you agree with their plan or not. But not to fear, these small (and frequently Chinese) watch manufacturers are filling this niche with watches such as the one you have. Accept it, revel in it, and don't bemoan that it doesn't say Seiko on the dial. Life is short.

Thanks for the interesting video - people have opinions and then other people who disagree start insulting them. As before, I love my Steeldive homages and we are told all these homages come from the same factories so maybe this Rdunae (catchy name) is no different or maybe its slightly better - that may be the same for the San Martin version too. The point is, they look great, are good timekeepers, and very wearable and we don't need to worry about them being too valuable (we can always get anothher one). But why haven't Seiko done these themselves? Maybe they make enough from selling loads of their movements - maybe even indeed they make more than if they made the Willards cheap themselves - this way they have more cachet. Who understands the marketing of Seiko?

Interesting, I thought saphire was more clear and with less distortion effects than hardlex or acrylic etc. I mean that when comparing same shapes. Not a domed vs a flat. As for the AR, I'm not obsessed with it. I find it as one of those things watch enthusiasts just get passionnate over as a habit more than anything else. It's not as bad as the " oh my god it has no screw down crown " situation that is quite ridiculous though' BUT I find some brands use a strong AR as a design feature, for example the Squale 1521 : I own one, and because it is completely flat and 100% aligned with the bezel, with a dial that pops out, and hands contrasting with the dial, it gives the impression that there is no saphire glass at all. Surprisingly, it adds depth ro an otherwise painted, flat dial. It's mesmerizing, and exceptionnely clear to read. I think that without AR it would be glaring everywhere and we'd loose that charm.

If Seiko took the new Willard's and dropped the price $200 and got rid on the prospex logo it would be perfect. Hell have Orient do it, have them put in their new 6000 series movements in a put a Suwa logo on the dial.

Sorry to hear about the abuse. Some people believe vintage watches are a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that.

Spencer I have the Rdunae. Diver. Mine. Works. But it stop. It runs for a while but it stops. Can you tell me what it cost to redo it like the one you did. Please

Dang, man. That’s sad that people get so upset as to personally attack you over this. I’m sorry that happened.

Awesome! So we can buy these and ship them right to your place for upgrading then?? Lol . Seriously, it looks great. I'm not mad at it.

Loved it! But did you put that little drag wire in before pressing the bezel back on?
@SpencerKleinVintageWatch4 жыл бұрын
Click wire first, then tucked the retaining wire into the gap in the case with the points holding down the rotating ring. Then the insert back on.

Spencer, Will the NH35 handset transfer to a 6000 series?

@7rslender4 жыл бұрын
very cool! Spencer do you think a NOS 6105-8000 dial would go onto the NH35?
@SpencerKleinVintageWatch4 жыл бұрын
The feet are in the wrong place. You'd need to cut them. I strongly strongly strongly advocate against cutting the dial feet on any dial, never mind a 6105 dial.
@7rslender4 жыл бұрын
Dear @@SpencerKleinVintageWatch thank you for your fast reply. I thought it was a good idea to ask a Pro before even thinking about doing something possibly really really stupid. I will for sure NOT destroy a 6105 dial. Promised. I was looking for a "drop in and OK" mod ;-)
@Supercruze4 жыл бұрын
Really cool project. What would be the practical cost of one of these?
@SpencerKleinVintageWatch4 жыл бұрын
Depends on the dial and handset used, since those would be the biggest variable.
@nemorinoeso75814 жыл бұрын
Actually I like it better with Rdunae branding. I don't want to pretend that I have an original 6105-8000 but I like the style of it, so this is the reasonable solution. There is a great demand for these classic reissues, Seiko ignores us, so shame on them. I would buy this same watch from Seiko for 500 bucks hands down just for the legacy of the brand but they seem not need my money so I buy it from Chine for 200.

Just curious why is hardlex clearer than sapphire? I thought I’ve read sapphire provides more clarity but loses that warmth.

Is it possible to swap out the sapphire crystal with one of your 6105 crystal reproductions? Will it fit?

Nothing we have is in that size - 31.5mm. All the originals were 32mm
@MrBacchus184 жыл бұрын
So generally you like Hardlex over Sapphire?
@SpencerKleinVintageWatch4 жыл бұрын
Yes. Hardlex will scratch maybe, but it's very hard to shatter. It's resilient. This is why it was originally used for dive / tool watches. Sapphire will resist scratching but if gets hit hard enough it'll shatter, and then poof goodbye watch potentially. Sapphire became a thing (IMO) when watches started being more fashion than tool, and a cosmetic blemish like a scratch became a much bigger deal.
