As vexed as you are by Seiko (and trust me, I share that vexation) I'm exasperated with the youtube algo that its youtube taken until now to show me your video. I find this watch! I bought it today (US$169) and am waiting for its arrival. This and your other review (which KZbin suggested before this?) are great. Dear Spencer, I always appreciate your profound knowledge, and in my opinion you had the most accurate discussion of the 6105 compared to the Rdunae Homage, with real heart & soul :). Now Seiko is coming out of the woodwork, see SPB317! I know, kind of elaborate, but: could you do a comparison of the Seiko reissue with the original and the chinese version? That would be a great update to your first review! Thank you very much for all the knowledge shared!

all your points about frustrations with seiko for not doing this beautiful watch so fully respectful of the original, are absolutely correct. i doubt seiko cares, the stopped caring about QC on alignment, and don't care about accuracy on reissues, so i'm no longer a fan or customer, but as you...i appreciate these very carefully made and honorable reeditions/homages. thanks for the courage to speak your mind.

I have a Steeldive and a couple of Heimdallr's from WR watches and they are amazing for the price !!!! I was putting on the Heimdallr Tuna one day and I dropped it from about 5 feet on to a brick floor . My first thought was 'Oh well , I'll just buy a new movement for it . I inspected the watch and it hit so hard that the applied logo came off and the hands were out of alignment . I opened it up to remove the logo and straitened the hands and with a tweek of the regulator , it's now running way within specs. to a couple of seconds a day .... I was amazed !!!!!

I’ve seen these 6105 copies come up and always wondered what you’d make of one given your seriousness about the small details, amazing they got so much right. I think seiko is more interested in presenting a “luxury” item with their reissues than they are a faithful reimagining. A lot of the things seiko gets wrong I think are the result of their attempts at making the watch look “premium”.

I'm pleased to say that in May 2023 my Rdunae arrived and it featured four pips either side of 12 on the bezel, and no blue tint on the AR coated sapphire. It seems Rdunae have listened to customer wants in a way almost no other manufacturer does and are committed to improving the authenticity to the original design. I now have a Seikosis dial on the way to make a homage which will be tough and inexpensive for use swimming, fishing etc! The build quality is indeed fantastic. Thank you for your two amazing reviews Spencer.

@leosheepman Жыл бұрын
@@moboei Hi, yes the watch build went well and I've worn it almost everyday since, despite having a few watches to choose from. I used the Seikosis dial from Ebay, and altered the lume colour on the original Rdunae hand set to match the dial lume colour which is a purer white (the Seikosis lume also has much less glow). I had to trim the dial feet and use adhesive to set the dial in place but it hasn't shifted (I used curved adhesive peel back strips made specifically for this, also from Ebay). The date window is very slightly further inset then the Rdunae date wheel so on dates with a double digit the alignment is off however it doesn't bother me. I have swam with it in the Mediterranean Sea while on holiday and it has held up well. I later got an Uncle Seiko bracelet which really completes the build and fits onto the Rdunae case straight from the factory with the end links supplied. I also had the chance to compare it with the Seiko spb317 reissue in a department store here in the UK recently and I must say I preferred my build to the newer Seiko with many changes from the original 1968 design. This build is very authentic in detail to the 6105 8000, cost very little and is robust, it turned out just how I wanted. Good luck with your own build!

It really is as great as you say,and the build quality is first class.Bezel action is butter-smooth and the dial detail is amazing.I have a 7 1/2" wrist and it looks brilliant on me. Was on the fence with buying the reissue SPB 317 which lists for $900 however it can be found for around $750 but many owners are complaing about the supposed higher end 6R35 being out more than 20 seconds per day. They sould have offered it for a few hundreed less with the 4R35 instead. There is an entire Seiko and homage moding communities some replacing this same watches dial with a Seiko and they look awesome with the added plus of the inexpensive workhorse NH35 movement. I know this video is four years old but as of the end of 2024, China is hitting major home runs with these homages.

I just got a brand new rdunae 6105-8000. The sapphire Glass is now clear instead of having the blue tint and there are 4 dots on either side of the pip. But one thing they changed that dissapointed me is the hands. In the original version they were brushed on top and polished on the bevels which gave them a surprising complexity. However in the new version the hands are entirely polished. As a result the beveled edges are completely visually lost and I wasn't sure it had any until I took out a magnifier. But maybe the original has all polished hands and I never noticed it? Or perhaps it was a cost cutting measure on their part. Otherwise the fit and finish is excellent and perhaps more refined than the first version.

FWIW the San Martin version is markedly different, in that the minute track has been moved to the chapter ring, and therefore the applied markers are moved a couple of mm towards the edge of the dial, which makes it look and wear larger, just like their take on the 6105-8110 looks and wear larger than the Steeldive and Heimdallr versions.

I have 2 of the Chinese Steeldive 6105 hommages - and they are great timekeepers and look good (and of course use the Seiko NR35 movement) - similar to the one you are reviewing. But I share the frustration - if Seiko reissued the 6105 at an affordable price they would sell loads of them. So in the meantime, us mere mortals have to make do with hommages. But they are pretty good and look good on an Uncle Seiko strap - and no-one is going to try and rob you. Thanks for this review - it means a lot that someone with your expertise in Seiko watches has given a good review of a hommage. The criticism is of Seiko and the missed opportunity!

There are certain demographics for this type of watch, for example someone that can't spend $1500 to $2000 on an actual 6105-8000. With that in mind shouldn't those people have a reasonably priced alternative to the real thing? An alternative that someone with a vast knowledge of the original has examined in depth and pointed out the pros and the cons of the execution. The answer is YES my douchebag friends that need to re-prioritize their life and get an idea of which battles to give a shit about and which are not a good use of their time and energy. It's a $200 to $300 watch that has a specific market and will satisfy the majority of it's customers. If you think this comment is about you you're probably right. Kind of like when an ebay seller marks an item shipped and gives a tracking# but has not yet actually taken it to USPS. Was your watch shipped via DHL? All the best to you and Sabrina.

They just very recently switched from using DHL to FedX . I think that's where your problem is .....

I bought my Rdunae a few months ago from WR Watches and ran into similar issues. A courier is used to get the watches to DHL and they seem to work on their own schedule. It took about two weeks for mine to arrive to Maryland.

@@jaredhill1021 So far 17 days(and counting) and still not in DHL's possession. Not my idea of "express shipping"

Stupid question but could you mod this? say swap in the seiko turtle dial in?
@josephsanpedro50564 жыл бұрын
Yes but you have to clip the dial feet since the crown is exactly at the 4 o'clock position. Search in KZbin 6105-8000 homage and look for TheTimeKeeper he has a video on how to do it

Arrogance? Pride after WWII? I dunno....those 6105s showed up at the ships store soon after we departed Japan. Duty free, that's where I got mine. For 32.99 which was a chunk back then.

It's not that Seiko *can't* do it, they only want to do the classic reissues as multi-thousand dollar limited editions. I think they intentionally "gimp" the more affordable reissues to try to force people to buy the ridiculously overpriced ones. Really a bummer.
@theleastsignificantbit4794 Жыл бұрын
Sadly Seiko doesn’t care. They only care about making minute improvements while doubling their prices. I’ll buy their version of the Willard because the Seiko reissues are either too expensive or stray too much from the original design.

‘In this case’ no pun intended.

Seiko knows how close the Chinese are coming at half their price, so they're moving upmarket. They're about to be overtaken in the pricerange they used to operate in until a few years ago. The era of automatic sub-300$ seiko divers has been coming to an end for a while now. Chinese are the new affordable. Once they get their branding and logo-game straight, they will become desirable and collectable as well. Chinese movements can and will be just as good or better than Japanese.

FiftyFour watches has a video and photos showing an original 62MAS case next to their homage of it, to show how similar it is (it's not exactly identical - IIRC the homage has slightly longer lugs, a thicker mid-case, and is 0.3 mm thicker overall due to the new sapphire crystal vs. acrylic - but it's pretty close, 37 mm diameter like the original rather than the larger Seiko modern re-interpretations). So they put the investment in getting an original 62MAS, which is not cheap, in order to get it right. I guess they probably laser-scan the original case as a starting point in order to help re-create it using CAD/CAM: facebook.com/watch/?v=376558863063461 cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0073/0985/2781/products/image_d2bedd0c-18fb-4c56-9002-5886af83d12d_1024x1024@2x.jpg?v=1583247704 cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0073/0985/2781/products/image_1e2f43bf-2d27-43d4-b2f3-953b94743a2d_1024x1024@2x.jpg?v=1583247704 cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0073/0985/2781/products/image_36f2154e-42ab-4441-94b4-6456122b15f4_1024x1024@2x.jpg?v=1583247704 cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0073/0985/2781/products/image_52ef5980-2601-412f-9ee2-7be2894219f8_1024x1024@2x.jpg?v=1583247704 They polish the cases by hand: facebook.com/watch/?v=354444661860965

How does Seiko allow a Chinese copy to exist? It cost me more to get my original 6105 to get serviced than what you paid for this watch! Daaaam….🙀😤
@kyleleungrulez4 жыл бұрын
Seems like a rabbit hole to fall into hhhhh. If you got first Chinese made watch, then possibly many to come. Also, I remember this model has two other style. One gold tone and the other's grey with sand-blasted finish. And much like your opinion, these Chinese manufacturers did what they do, with modern iteration of vintage Seiko watches. Primarily because A. they don't make it anymore B. Seiko did make a reissue but hella expensive. Safe to say that most famous styles of Seiko is pretty much replicated by those manufacturers. But at the end of day, I'm not defending for their copying. But it is a cheaper way of merely wearing or even modding.

If I wasn't so pissed at China, I'd consider picking one up.
