Unfortunately, not all of us were financially literate early. I was 35 when I finally educated myself and started taking steps. I went from $176,000 in debt with zero savings or retirement to now, 2 years later, fully debt-free and over $1000,000 net worth. I know that doesn't SOUND like a lot, but l'm incredibly proud of it. Now I'm fast-tracking my wealth building (investing $400,000 annually) and don't owe a dime to anyone. It's a good feeling!.,,

Even if I was leaning toward doing it, the comment she made when shd said her daughter said its just money wouldve made me pump the brakes and set it up so she worked and contributed at least 1/3 of the cost. That made it clear to me that she doesnt understand the value of money. ..so I guess we would be waiting for her next concert. 😂

I worked 3 nights of the Taylor Swift era's tour concert on April 13, 14, and 15, 2023 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, FL as an usher. I live 5.5 miles from the stadium and got free admission, free parking, free concessions, and was paid $12/hour. I worked in a different section of the stadium each night. I'm not a fan of her music but a lot of her fans thought I was "extremely lucky" to be there. I would never pay $6,000 to see her.

Those high prices go to the resellers, not the artists. If Ticketmaster sells a ticket for $250 they get to add their fee to that. Then if someone turns around and is able to get $750 reselling it through Ticketmaster, Ticketmaster will actually make 25% of whatever the ticket resells for. Lots of people and businesses make money speculating on tickets. When they win, they make a lot of money and fans have to pay way more.

I retired at 55 with $1.4 million in liquid assets and a paid-off property in Hawaii. Now at 57, I have $1.5 million and plan to sell the lot for $400,000. My monthly budget has been $9,200, but we've averaged $8,000 even with significant travel and hobbies. I had similar experiences with my retirement planner, but I decided to leave a high-stress job. Historically, markets tend to bounce back within six months to a year, so it's smart to have one to two years' worth of cash available. I'm also looking into travel health insurance to save money while spending part of the year abroad. My key advice is to retire early, stay adaptable, and prioritize financial knowledge and sound advice.
@IsraelGarry
@IsraelGarry 12 сағат бұрын
Congratulations! You’re absolutely right! I’m also aiming to retire around 55 or 56. The importance of enjoying those early retirement years when you're most energetic can't be emphasized enough. It's crucial to enter retirement with a solid financial planner, a clear understanding of your actual expenses, and ideally, no debt. Being flexible with spending during market downturns is also key. I'm happy to hear you're enjoying your retirement, and I look forward to joining you soon

@@Eric_BassettYes but I see this story every day because I live this. The daughter saying that the mom is frugal very much could be a guilt trip to get what she wants. My sister does this all the time. What I would propose is a third option. You do a trip somewhere else where you don’t feel so guilty spending the money. Because something tells me the mom might not enjoy the concert; it’s her daughter’s thing. And because the cost is so high it’s just not a good thing. This also happens between me and my sister. Do something both will enjoy for a reasonable cost.

Everyone has there Taylor swift thing. Else there a hermit and there's entirely a different problem. And life time memories is potentially a thing. I cannot judge if that will be that for them. But I took my dad to two concerts as a surprise and he still talks about it. One was 30 years ago. Another one my grandmother came along a few months before she died. And its how I remember her. I don't care how much money you have. $6K for a concert is ridiculous, especially considering being stuck in the nosebleeds for that amount. If you want to make memories with your daughter, use that money to fly out somewhere with her for a week and make tons of memories, instead of one memory. Don't waste it on a 3-hour concert. I want to hear Dave's response to this. I'm appalled this lady was told to go do it.

Her daughter's response that "money is just money" is the most important reason why you shouldn't do this. For a child to ask their parent to spend $6,000 on a concert nosebleed tickets and then talk about that expenditure like it's no big deal shows incredible immaturity. I'm all for having a fun time with your family and your kids. And if you make 10 million dollars a year and you are pro athlete you can afford to do shit like this. But you would be teaching your daughter a terrible lesson about how to manage money and how to manage fun money if you agree to this concert.

Not worth it for the price. What her daughter will remember more than the experience is how much her mother spent, and this is not a good financial lesson to teach your children. Teach your children to spend money they have earned, not someone else's. It is inconsiderate of her teenager to make her mother do something she obviously is not comfortable doing. As a fellow swifty, this was my contemplation too! I am super frugal and I told myself the two people i'd want to see in concert EVER would be Taylor swift and the spice girls... if they did a reunion (don't judge) haha. However, I've seen what the concert looks like from the nosebleeds and I can't justify paying that much to only watch her on the TV screen in the arena. I told myself the the day she comes to Toronto for the eras tour (the one i would've went to) that i would either live stream the event on my big screen TV or watch it on Disney plus with the volume blasting, and singing till my neighbours call the cops. Throw yourself a little Tay Tay party at home with a bunch of people and have a better time. Best part is you can pause the show and go pee if you have to haha.

I could have spent that money on traveling the world, going on the Ramsey cruise, or buying material goods. But those aren’t things I love. There is no reason they can't go to a fun restaurant, shopping trip, nail salon, national park, fancy hotel or something for a couple hundred dollars or less and make beautiful memories of spending time together. Acting like the Taylor Swift concert is the only way one can possible build a memory with ones 16 yr old daughter is a very odd position to take: Either I spend 6000K, or I can't make a memory with my growing daughter? All the families out there making 70K a year who can't afford this nonsense are still very able to do memorable things with their children.

It sounds like her daughter doesn’t have any concept of money and earning and income. You need to teach her. Not by giving in to this ridiculous request. What will be next? I know you can afford it, but your gut instinct is telling you not to do it this time. You can add that $2500 to her college or trade school fund as a birthday gift, not because she is entitled to it. And maybe donate $500 to a charity or an animal rescue in her name so she learns the value of money and how it can be used to help others.
