Amanda, you are literally speaking my language! I would LOVE to have people over for Ramadan now that I married and have my own apartment, but I am TERRIFIED OF COOKING FOR THAT MANY PEOPLE!!! The pressure of not knowing if it will taste too good and just cooking for a large number of people and not just me and my husband is so huge! My advice for this year, invite people over at the second part of ramadan when you have perfected the dish you want to make and be sure to take your time and follow exact instructions (that you wrote down). Your channel is so calming and relatable! Btw, as a married woman who’s also hosted iftar, I’d do something fun and simple like walking tacos/ taco bar. Your friends will be excited to simply be in your company and not have to cook dinner. Even the simplest of dishes are appreciated! ❤

English is my second language, and I learned it in Australia when I was studying eight years ago. Here's a tip for learning a second language: Don't learn like a child, because you're not one. Start immediately with conversations. Talk to your teacher about your favorite book or movie and ask them to correct you when needed. Class after class, you'll notice a huge improvement in your Arabic. I love you 💗

Amanda, I know cooking Iftar for others can be really daunting! My trick is cook meals that can be prepped in the morning and cooked in the oven. Pair with a salad & a soup. Dessert can be something that is no bake & needs to set in the fridge. Makes everything with timing easier!

A really easy meal for a crowd is mansaf. It seems intimidating but easier than maklooba in my opinion. Or you can roast a few chickens. You’re glowing in this vlog

I also get nervous when I have to cook for more than 5 people 🥲 My tips are to choose meals that you can prepare a few hours before the guests arrive (for example soup, goulash, stew, meatballs in tomato sauce). You can make rice and mashed potatoes. For dessert I choose between tiramisu or a simple apple cake or make both because they are really simple to make and you can't do anything wrong with that.

Salam Amanda ! I enjoy your content! I have a tip to learn languages as i am a polyglot! Not everyone learns with the same methods, first tip focus on the language itself before learning the letters (to read) it will overwhelm you, listen to many Series in Arabic with english subtitles you will start to recognize the words more & more with time! Also there are many language learning apps that are more engaging and use images if you are someone visual it will be more enjoyable and seem less of a task! Try those options hope it helps!

I feel the same way inviting all my friends over for my daughter's birthday. It's so overwhelming. But since you've done it already with your large immediate family you can do it again for Ramadan! In South Africa , Mauritius. Zimbabwe and that for Iftar we make things like spring rolls, pinwheel pizzas, samoosas , halfmoons , mini pies etc. These could be made ahead and frozen and then just fry /bake them oon the day. I also do mini wraps . For main meals you could do pasta bakes and wings in the oven or something. We also make like a sort of milkshake called falouda wch is so refreshing to drink. Just a few ideas of what we eat on our end.

12:39 don’t worry too much, but as a person who always hosts and is used to cooking for crowds, I recommend you cook entrees that can be “prepared” the night before. For ex, butter chicken or any rice dish’s meat/chicken can be pre made and marinated till the next day where you’ll then cook it.

tbh I think app parties are fun where you only serve appetizers the whole meal (kabab skewers, salads, mezzes, cheeseboard) with some fun mocktails. you can also make it a potluck! everyone brings something but you've got your house to offer as the venue lol I personally love cooking for a crowd, but I pick things that are easy or that I have tried making already and I know they will be a success (pakistani pulao, turkish manti, kababs and chicken skewers, salads, pastas!)

Asalamualaykum. I think planning ahead and organizing what you b are cooking and cooking it the day before you host so you're able to taste and know it v is good. I mean, personally, I've learned to cook even fasting and knowing what needs to be added by the smell. But that has developed with years and practice. Either way, you got this girl.❤

When hosting in Ramadan, try to marinate the stuff prior like meat post iftar and make food that you can half way prepare the day before allowing you to work less on the day of. And you can also order takeout and just plate it as well lol.

10:00 It’s actually more sustainable, maybe that’s why they do it? I read in a book that plastic cutlery is hard to recycle and the plastic used for it is not food-safe (figure that). And a lot of it ends up in the oceans.

Possibly host the iftar around the time of your month so you can actually toast the food since you won’t be fasting around that time or cater!,

This teacher is teaching real Arabic lessons Arabia fosha not an Arabic dialect that every Arab understands not like the accents not every Arab Can understand like Algerian accent Tunisian marrocan are the most difficult to understand and fosha is the one used in coran so you need to learn fosha than accents ...
