This time, I stayed overnight at an internet cafe, Gran Customa Yokohama-Isezakicho, in Kanagawa, Japan. The internet cafe has a public bath and offers all-you-can-eat curry and some amusements like free comic books, movies, and so on.

One thing that amazes me in these videos all these hotels is how very quiet it always is. It’s like people are actually considerate of others and don’t blare their TV or radio. Also everything is extremely clean. There is no toilet unflushed or trash anywhere, etc.

Maybe it's a Japanese thing? I've never stayed in a capsule hotel, but i feel that in the US there would be people up all night, blaring music, bathrooms a mess, etc.

The capsule bed really reminds me of the bunks we had on a submarine... except like four times bigger, of course. A cozy little space and free curry is more than enough hotel for me, I'd be totally content staying in a place like this.

I guess its a cultural thing that I dont find any background music in most of the Japanese made videos, which is great. It's nice that you don't like to infuse artificial moods by pushing unnecessary music inside and appreciate life as it comes.

Was it the lack of property ownership (like cars and houses per capita), 57% average comparative after-tax wage rate in Japan, or the higher per capita suicide rates that make you think that (vs the US as an example)? 🤔 Not sure what planet you're on but on Earth, Japan is FAR from the utopia you claim it is. 😆

@@victormendes956 At first it was a bit of a challenge, but I rented through Oakhouse (Suggested by the school I was going to at the time, when they found out I wanted my own place rather than a dorm). Oakhouse was very helpful through the process, even when I asked alot of questions. The caretakers of my apartment building were really nice and helpful too (I made friends with them during my time there). What made things easier was the fact that Oakhouse had a withdrawal system, so I didn't have to worry about missing a payment.

This is a capsule room as opposed to just a capsule. I think it makes a lot of difference because there is private room for some stuff and to see. There also doesn’t appear to be the unnecessary space for the TV (which often isn’t installed anyway) in this capsule. Also you can get in length ways so must feel less like a coffin. I used to stay a lot in capsule hotels in the past but last time I tried I became claustrophobic and changed to a normal hotel the next day. I probably wouldn’t feel claustrophobic in this one.

Of course I could be wrong but this just seems like a reasonably affordable way to have a roof over your head in lieu of renting an apartment. I love this idea because it means you’re untethered.

25 bux a day for a pod is "reasonably affordable"? That's a normal apartment cost.

It’s probably cheaper to live there than rent your own apartment (especially in large cities like Tokyo) plus you are provided with free food! that cuts your expense significantly. I’m certain some businessmen and women do capsule Hotel hopping as their transient Home. If you Rent you have to pay (power, water, heating) utilities, so groceries food, do or pay extra for maintenance, pay for internet. In a capsule hotel you are provided with everything. have a shower, free food from the cafeteria, free wifi, other than a Desktop some probably have gyms, pools, massage chairs, console games/arcade so free access to amenities not found in your typical apartment complex

Indeed. There are only very few things inferior to a proper hotel room: 1. Door can't really be locked 2. Not much room for personal belongings 3. Not much privacy due to thin walls and door As cool and nifty as this is, I couldn't see myself spending a longer stay there. Overnight, or a few days living outta your suitcase, you can't get much better, especially for that enormously cheap price.

I actually don’t think it would take much to make this comfortable for a longer term living situation: just about 4 sq ft more space in the room for storage and a real door. As I wrote in another comment: it already offers more than most US collage dorms for about $3000-$5000 less for 10 months.

American here, excellent video. This is an extremely good deal, especially with the McDonalds being only a minute away, I hope we build units like this in the US in the near future.
