You can get a plane or a bus between Saigon and Hanoi, but another way to do so is take the Vietnamese train line - the reunification express.
In this video I get to experience what a "first class soft sleeper" cabin is like on a Vietnamese train as I travel for 35 hours between Vietnam's capital of Hanoi all the way to Ho Chi Minh city at the other end of the country.
I'll give you a train tour, show you the toilets and take you along on my full experience of the reunification express... all 35 hours of it.

My SE1 train from Hanoi to Saigon seems newer though, now every 4-bed rooms have their own green book for regulations & meal ordering, as well as in-flight (?) magazine and artificial bucket of flowers

You got on like the old cabin (I think so ) plus idk if you have miss the Hải Vân Pass, many people said it was the best views and tbh i've gone through that part of the trip and the view was nice!

Ahh did I? I don’t know but the other cabins looked a bit newer haha! It was actually the middle of the night when we went through the Hai Van Pass so you couldn’t see anything unfortunately

I tried it last year. Don't know what train that was but it's a 32 hours trip. It isn't as bad as those naysayers made it out to be. In fact, I've thought of doing it again next year. The Hai Van Pass is the highlight of the journey. Don't try catching a nap coz u might miss it.

Dude, if you want to go from Saigon to Hanoi or vice versa, then I recommend choosing SE1/2,3/4 and even SE5/6. SE7/8 I found it older than the other 3 pairs

For Hanoi to HCMC which is over 1000 miles by rail travel, Vietnam should develop HSR with the help of Chinese or Japanese technology, so that it could reach the destination within 8-9 hours.
