Cattle in general ..cows in particular were considered wealth of a country..'Ghai sampaththi" karke bolthe the. Cow..Ghai..gives everything ..like milk..butter..ghee..cow dung..used as fuel..urine also has many use..earlier in Indian villages, the floor & walls were smeared with cow dung paste which keeps away flies..mosquitoes.. Ash..which we call as BHASMA is used as Tilak..& our Naga sadhus smear it allover the body.. cow dung along with urine are used as manure in the fields..also oxen used for ploughing the fields..pull the cart..the skin used to make drums..etc..& hence cow is known as KAAMADHENU..meaning the "one which gives whatever you desire"..( coconut tree is called as KALPAVRUKSHA). Also for new born babies, if mother's are not able to feed, cow's milk was given..Hence in India cows are highly respected as in African countries.
