If I had one watch for all occasions, price no object, it would be this DayDate 40 in white gold. I would argue that the President bracelet, is the best designed, most elegant bracelet on a watch. And matched with the iconic cyclops and fluted bezel, is simply incredible.

I have my father's 80's era yellow gold Day-Date, and in the the 10 years that I have owned it I've only worn it a handful of times for very special occasions. As much as I love this watch and cherish it greatly, I think wearing an all gold watch makes a bold statement, which makes it difficult to wear on a regular basis.

I have a 34mm Oyster date 14k and wear it everyday mostly its blends in I guess cause it's not as big, and just ordered a 36mm presidential 18k Gold let's see if it's too flashy, it depends on how you behave and look, people don't care

I heard that back in the days Rolex was proactively going out and gifting the Day-Date to Heads of State in a smart marketing move. Not sure that would still be appropriate nowadays however.

13:00 The fluted bezel can be made of platinum without issue. The crown and case back teeth are much sharper than the bezel, so if they can be churned out then obviously they can make the fluted bezel in platinum. They chose not to as the white gold model is indistinguishable form platinum by visual observation.

Fluted platinum is still unavailable and platinum is much whiter and shinier, easily you can distinguish between them....

@@kevintoth5365 With modern manufacturing, finishing, and polishing techniques the metals: silver, platinum, stainless steel, and white gold are not able to be distinguished through visual observation. No one has been able to pass a visual test with greater than 80% accuracy. I can provide you with the exam if you want to take a stab at it. ^_~

I understand your point but white gold has a yellowish hue after time. But it's interesting why we don't have a fluted platinum bezel, they could distinguish with dial alone.. Only platinum has ice blue dial for example. I think it would cost a lot to produce platinum fluted bezel. You could be right as well....

Great conversation. Really enjoyed the preparation on this topic which is always the case with ABTW. A year ago I acquired a 18238 DayDate with champagne dial which is from 1996. Just had an overhaul and refinish at Rolex. Such a timeless piece which now looks brand new. 40mm probably too big for me but perhaps one day! This piece is truly an instant icon.

I own a 40 gold date day, TT submarine bluesy, TT Daytona black dial and a Rolex Prince White Gold. It is my opinion the DD is the most beautiful but it is not a watch you can wear going everywhere unless you want to get rob . Also gold DD is is very conspicuous... it is massive statement. It is either you wear the DD or the watch freighter you.

Sporty look day-date = Oyster Bracelet......Formal look Day-Date= president bracelet. You can fine tune your look with certain color of dial ,material of dial and witty or without diamonds.Also selecting your type of bezel can affect the formal or sporty look. I don’t know any other brand that allows so many available combinations on a higher level dress watch. I can expect a date just to have many combos but it’s nice to have the variety on a precious metal watch.

What Rolex could do next is to make this an annual calendar by just adding the month like they do on the Sky-dweller. I have a 41 in yellow gold with a silver dial which is quite accurate and the bracelet is very comfortable. The day date is one of the great ones.

Nice lite hearted discussion. My favorite Rolex is the Datejust. I enjoy watching stuff on the DayDate because they are similar. The thing that puts the Datejust over the top for me is it is less cluttered and I prefer the Jubilee over the President bracelet. I think it would be awesome if they gave a Jubilee option for the DayDate. But I guess it adds to the uniqueness of each design that each has a signature bracelet.

If you don't want to play with Rolex, did you like Joe Rogan. Byron mega get a discount and you get justice. Go to watch as a Rolex. And believe me, Omega's are as good as a Rolex. Omega came up with that movement 1st, so Rolex was pressed into upgrading their movement. The argument was, should we upgrade our movements to match omega. Or; stick with the same old stuff that they been using for years. Now they have a watch that can match your mega for accuracy as we as power reserve and quality of workmanship. Many Omega's even have exhibition, case, back. . So I got to say if you're talking watch for watch you're getting a much better deal with the mega. Also, I like the Omega cases for my wrist the 39 mm that you're measuring is actually 38 1/2 and believe me it makes a big difference. I have a holy grail watch and then looking for and frankly I already have a basher on but I think I kind a like to try a 40 mm pressure as a holy grail watch. Either that or I'll buy a Patek Philippe Ora basher on Constantine 222. But if you're looking for a good sport to watch, it's hard to beat that omega. The movement is fully finished everywhere. It's a gorgeous thing.

They had in their possession a 18ct Rose gold Presidential that was an engraved gift from Evita Peron to her husband Juan. It was a historical and Beautiful piece. They claimed it was the first rose gold ever produced for anyone.

I think people think day-date 2 41mm proportion is too big and the crown is too small is just plain stupid, Rolex have DJ 2 so what up here? And make 40mm doesn’t make that much different and just discontinue the 41mm is just ridiculous. The 40mm bracelet even more weird the between lug seem like cut half instead of like 36mm & 41mm were finish even much more perfect for lug to lug in between the case & bracelet, just saying 41mm will even more rare for these days.

Truth is the only reason to truly own this watch over a Datejust (if you dont have the moneh to burn) is that you want the status of that it cost more than the Datejust. I hate rolex. I think they are a marketing company, not watch company. I would never ever wear a Rolex, it is sooo tacky! I prefer Jaeger LeCoultre and Omega Aqua Terra as a sport watch. However, Day Date 40 in white gold is the best and only Rolex I would ever consider of owning.
