They don’t make corporate movies like this anymore! Fantastic. My father was working at Sperry Univac in 1978 when it was made. He used to bring home stacks of discarded computer punch cards for us to play with. I wish I could ask him if he wore a white lab coat when he worked.

I had an interview with Sperry Univac in 1981 for a position in their international marketing team. I was very impressed, however I felt that I had the same opportunities at 3M, and I am glad that I made the decision to stay with 3M.

This is very important to be able to step back in time like this to see what they were predicting. But also to see what they were doing at the time as well.👍

Three years after this film was made I went to work for Honeywell's Solid State Electronics Division in Minneapolis. Had the pleasure of working on Reagans Star Wars Initiative. Really wonderful time and memory. Then our dumb ass Federal gov decided to let China compete with us using essentially slave labor and boom, there went not only the manufacturing jobs but many of the high tech sector as well especially in Minnesota. It has only gotten worse since then. Sad how our gov has done more to screw us over than to protect us.

And Sperry became defunct 8 years later in a hostile takeover by Burroughs corp and renamed Unisys.

Burroughs was way behind Sperry Univc at the time of takeover. I worked in Roseville, MN from 1971 to the mid 1990's. I worked in the building of the computers including giving chips their brains.

What a fascinating piece of history. That first piece of background music was used by Channel 9 in Australia for their groundbreaking cricket coverage and Wide World Of Sports. It's virtually Australia's alternative national anthem.

I parted out an old Sperry voice mail server that was used at TWA headquarters at KCI. It had two massive hard drives with 14 inch discs in them. They must have weighed 50 lbs each! I still have the discs.
