All you need is a weighted egg pattern bomb there. Just look at the bushes on the banks near known lie’s - they are bright pink with all the egg pattern flies that people have overcast and got tangled, and snapped off. On the big T, you don’t need to read the water at all..😊

If you hit bottom even once or twice should you change to a lighter tip?

Typically yeah it would be a good idea. Hitting bottom isn't a good thing and it usually means your fly is swimming below the fish's line of sight
