Did NATO promised not to deploy further in Eastern Europe - Yes, they did. Another question, Are there any U.S. soldiers IN the field of battle IN ukraine - YES there are and these people, are not "helping the poor ukrainians", they are there to kill etnic russians and spread havoc. Havoc, which lately will be blaimed on Russian Federation. What a pathetic country is the U.S. They use these sweet words about "terrible crysis in Russia", "poor people, starving", "regimes and police states", but the same people are silent about the TERRIBLE amounts of homeless an poor people in U.S., silent about the grotesk and vulgar smashings of riots and protests in U.S., silent about the regular KILLINGS of U.S. citisents, by the police, silent about the CRIMES that the U.S. government is practicing in the virtual privacy of U.S. citisents or world wide in that matter. Pathetic country. This "strategy" that you see here I call "to recognise the beast". It is the same strategy as this from the cold war, when U.S. called Soviets "the empire of evil" "baby eating devils" and all kind of similar bulshit. Old but gold, hey U.S. "Analysers"? You know it that way so you do it that way :D . The problem is that now is NOT the cold war. Sanctions sped up the 400 billion dollar pipeline being built from Russia into China(now the world's largest and still rapidly growing economy). Now there is a second Russia China pipeline about to begin construction. On top of that there are 2 more pipelines currently under construction from mainland Russia to Germany and Greece. This just adds to the web of Russia/EU pipelines already in operation.

What better that a leader like Yeltsin to sell, and what worse than a leader llike Putin who wants to localise the wealth of the country. Get the resouces without the cost of supporting the population - Latin America colonial model. Also Russia is a potential strong Europaan partner and centre of gravity in Asia /Eurasia. A leader who wants to leverage that is a risk - so some puppet is better.

I agree this documentary casts Russia in an unfair light and probably doesn't meet the standards of a fair and objective documentary, but as to your contempt towards American global influence, I don't see a problem with it on a moral level. Since the US has the ability to project power across the globe, why wouldn't they? All states act out of self-interest, no? If another country were in the enviable position the US is in, surely they would seek to shape as many world events as they could, simply for security reasons. Not to mention this endeavor could be carried out very possibly through even more antagonistic and aggressive methods. I see US foreign policy as natural and reasonable. Imperialistic, hell yes, but humans are imperialistic creatures and nations are no different
