The Mod scene started in the 1960s, not the 1950s

Nope, I think round 58...kids from places like Stamford hill, maybe Lewisham goin up into clubs in soho to listen to guys like Tubby Hayes and Ronnie Scott play live - be bop, part of modern jazz. Some of them started calling themselves modernists, at some point some of them called themselves individualists. Modernist was shortened to Mod by the media (possibly the Daily Mail) round 64 I think.
