When I first got into wargaming there was a certain type of older wargamer who looked at anything Napoleonic as being the "real wargames". While I don't agree with that totally, every time I see a Napoleonic game, even a simple one, I get excited. I always liked this game, and I loved watching this play through.

Thanks! I appreciate it! This game really is a lot of fun, especially considering how simple it is. I like games with a lot of movement.

Great little game. I played it many times with a friend in the early 1980s.

@@plrc4593 I don't have the game any longer and it has been at least 20 years since I've played it.

The companion game, Austerlitz (1973) also by SPI, is a very playable & enjoyable early cardboard map & counter wargame & has similar rules to Waterloo. I used to own a version of Waterloo that had an alternative counter set & rules that allowed stacking, which was popular with wargamers.

Thanks! I'll keep an eye out for Austerlitz.

Would watch this, but am to OCD to look at all those pieces higgledy-piggledy across the board. Like mine nice and neat squared away in the middle of the hex.

Some Prozac, Zoloft or Wellbutin may help you with your OCD.

seemed too easy to take Hougamont since Frence never took it.

The victory conditions can seem "gamey", but they are often made that way so that both players will adhere to historical choices. The British player knowing that the French can win that way will need to take actions that will try to prevent it. This can seem to drive the players towards certain choices, but real generals have limitations on their actions that board gamers would not. So, these arbitrary victory conditions are used to drive players toward historical choices. The real problem in board wargaming is that both players have too much hindsight, and too much information of the map. The solution is a game mastered match, but that requires a dedicated game master. Good luck getting that.

Terrible strategy and only using gamesmanship rather than good generalship

Ah. Another keyboard commando. Since you are such an expert with the tactical skills of Alexander the Great, why don't you demonstrate it for us by making your own play through video of this game and posting it to KZbin. You can start making videos with just your mobile phone. I think you'll find it's difficult to play your best while narrating what you are doing and baby sitting the camera.
@thomassenbart2 жыл бұрын
@@CenturionsReview Alexander has nothing to do with what you are attempting in this game. Your strategy is just gamesmanship, trying to win, as opposed to executing a cogent strategy. Not good.

@@thomassenbart Then you need to teach us all by posting your own play through video showing how you use a coherent strategy instead of gamesmanship.

@@thomassenbart It has nothing to do with my ego. It has to do with people who don't contribute anything to the wargaming community, but feel they have the right to complain. I come across videos I don't like on occasion and instead of complaining, I go out and create my own video instead.
