Videos and pics do show Mel in early January '97, performing in TV shows/photoshoots while still sporting chestnut hair. A true gem of a girl regardless, of course.

Mel C flew under the radar when I was a teenager, I had the biggest crush on Victoria back then… but as an adult I realize that they probably gave Mel C the “sporty” roll because she is arguably the most naturally beautiful. Since she was clearly the strongest singer, if she was also the prettiest it would pull to much attention away from the rest of the group. This video is a good example of what I mean, when she is wearing a dress with her hair down and more makeup, she’s stunning 😍
