#3: I don’t think mvs always need a storyline, but I do think they need to be driven by some sort of unifying goal or vision. “Looking pretty/cool” is not a goal or vision, and that is what a lot of the recent mvs seem to be aiming for. Aespa, XG, and Ateez have been standouts to me recently in having mvs that have some motivation or unifying goal. I may not always get the story but I can tell they’re being purposeful in what they’re doing. #5: as someone who lived through the real Y2K, kpop y2k doesn’t really deserve to be considered y2k. Just look at the photos from any red carpet from those years and you’ll see that it was a hot mess and that is what made it fun and great. The current trends are too focused on being aesthetically pleasing to have any character. I was so delighted to see aespas supernova outfits because I was like “finally, a group is going for weird flashy fashion again instead of bland aesthetically pleasing crap”.

Exactly! It was exploration, freedom, daring and a lot of experimentation. Because internet just had oppened the doors of the world it was a mixture of all an everything that was considerede cool for the user without the baggage of claims like cultural appropiation or labels. 3. Ives' "Acendio" was the first thing that came to my mind. Watching it felt like a breath of fresh air; there was a clear and easy to follow storyline with beautiful details and visuals. Aespas Mvs will always be the coolest to watch in my opinion, they're just so out there and new, i love it.

Fr! There are a lot of groups that have story in their music videos (xikers mvs, especially tricky house also have cool story lines). As for ATEEZ, they’ve been doing meaningful mvs basically since debut. In crazy form and bouncy all the members were split into groups of 2 and they had their own roles (like yunho and Wooyoung who were making the ship device in cf, or yeosang and Seongwha who were delivering the messages through peppers in bouncy). And it doesn’t just stop at those mvs, I mean look at mvs like answer, inception, Halazia, the real and so on. There are many groups that have storylines, not even just the nugu groups, as you mentioned, skz, txt, rv and many other big groups actually have meaningful story lines.

This might get some fans angry but after watching Armageddon; it felt like SM, for their latest MVs, is using *almost* the same concept of XG but without the risk of breaking korean beauty standards (well what can we do🤷‍♀ most people care about the visuals rather than the story since ever) And to add, as far as I remember Aespa concept was about the virtual world and futuristic theme, idk how or why they went for an 'alien theme' like we see in Supernova and Armageddon, they reminded me of TGIF and GRL GVNG respectively (I'm talking about the concept of the MV not the song itself). Not that is a bad thing tho, it's just an interesting observation. As an usual listener of them. Don't get me wrong the song is good, but the thing is, what got me interested into aespa was their rapline... and I don't see it anymore in their latest tracks. Giselle was the one who stand out for me before, now I barely see her. 'Savage' is one of their biggest song and you can't deny, aside of their vocal line being highlighted, the rapline was strong enough for them to get the recognition they have. Giselle is their hidden gem, they could've given her more lines here if they were aiming for hip hop vibes mixed with futuristic, like idk SM did it in Next Level and Savage THEY KNOW HOW. Atp they're wasting her potential, I don't like to make any superstitions however I can't help but think they're doing it on purpose.

But I did more research after my comment and saw that the director of their last MV is the same of XG so it makes sense the similarities of production. Kpop MV's have always been mostly about dancing and flashy sets, since the second gen. It's not until the 3rd gen when storylines became very popular. Sometimes, it doesn't have to be that deep. If the MV is enjoyable to watch, I don't mind if it doesn't have a story at all. But that's just my preference.
