This song hits all the right chords. It sounds great and I'm gonna have a great time picking apart what it means... Yeah high school English classes have had an impact on me, how could you tell? Lord why do I fixate on things like this spontaneously? Words are just my way of expressing my liking of something. Artists draw, I write. The short version is that it seems to be coming from the perspective of someone whose been burnt a little from a relationship with the other person but wants or knows that there can be opportunity for something good in a second chance and whether they're willing to open back up to that. So here we go First line opens up with a rhetorical question which is a sister line to another part of the song. However it still feels rather Socratic. It eludes to hesitancy on the narrator's end. It's a good device to start with because it pulls in our engagement too. A mental checkpoint of their take on the matter. They are unsure, ambivalent, cautious. They recount the past they've had with that other person in a rhyme which is broken when their conscious thought kicks back in to break the rhyme as they don't want to get "down with the beat". The break of the rhyme represents this in a literal sense as it's a break in the flow. The song avoids a rhythm which is pleasurable to the ears much like the narrator is avoiding a different kind of pleasure. A good relationship. The song keeps the person's stance. It's evident they don't want to rush in just yet. Still plenty of hesitance given the metaphor of 'hitting it' with the bat as well as an entire stanza dedicated to establishing her boundaries as far as (sexual) pleasure goes. You then get a break in the song with the next stanza. The person tries to reconcile their external observations with their internal feelings. They feel trapped in a societal rhythm and wonder if they need to pursue the same needs despite their experience. Even the cadence of the song becomes nearly monotonous especially with the last 4 lines, mimicking in structure that societal dance all seem to step to. The second sister line then appears "I guess you're feeling that your life could be a little more frisky?". Unlike the first iteration of the line, this line is strongly rhetorical. It is suggestive to both the other party in this song as well as us, a prelude of what's to come as it sets a new tone. They reach a decision. They decide to keep their walls still partially up but give into chance and let the relationship restart as they 'get down with the beat'. You can see this renewed willingness in: "But no, I'm not a perfect little angel either Oh, a bit of spice can be a little sweeter" They make it known their innocence is no longer total and that they can be a leading player in this dynamic instead of being there to indulge the fantasy of another and 'follow a script'. The next two stanzas show the narrator taking on a leading role in this relationship. They are now open to the pleasures that are present but this time they are the captain of the helm. The leading stanza utilises a lot of the word "I'll" preceding you, which establishes a hierarchy of power. This is followed by the next stanza which is all a large euphemism for sex, the tempo changing to a lower bpm and then rising again mimicking stimulation levels. "A little water to my wind we'll make a hurricane" makes a good metaphor for the equal playing field of this restarted relationship. Both elements are required for it's full potency however "You be a spy and I'll be the bad guy" also insinuates a role reversal. The other party now has to chase our narrator instead of the narrator chasing them which was made clear as the narrator often had to 'follow the script' of the other person. They have overcome that swelling feeling of needing to prove themselves a few stanzas ago with a newfound sense of self worth. The song closes with "We'll play until the morning light but if you get too close you'll feel my spider bites" Which is a nice way of summarising the mood of the song given it politely means "Don't fuck with me and we'll have a good time. The narrator seems content with their new position in this relationship. So yeah, that's my informal video-essay style explanation. It lacks the formality of a proper essay and is also an explanation as opposed to an argument as essays typically analyse a song for its themes and argues their presence. Finding the meaning of the song is but one component. (Note: Used narrator for lack of a better word. Could've used singer I guess but ah to hell with it.)

Tales of africa is a stirring masterpiece that only comes once in a millennium. This thrilling instruments makes it a jaw-dropping performance that properly utilizes the medium. I rate this song 10 african tribes/10 african tribes, and will never listen to it again as every time I get saddened by the the fact that there will never be a song to match this masterpiece.
