The fucked up irony of this game is that while the PS2/Xbox versions have been praised as essnetially the best Spidey games ever made, nobody ever seems (for whatever reason) to acknowledge the PC version of this game, which literally cannot be said to even be the same game at all. I'm not sure if you've ever played it, but I can tell you, I went into the game store, picked up the box, saw that the box art is identical to the console version, screenshots on the back of the box and all. But what I got upon starting up the game was absolutely NOT this game. It takes it back to the linear only style, and forces spiderman to swing ONLY off of locked indicators. I only played it for one level and deleted it for being awful!! I have never really found the appropriate time to vent about how annoying and completely unacceptable this was to me. The fact that a game company passed off a cheap CHEAP knock off of the successful console version by falsely conveying that it was the same game, and was completely different in ever way. I suppose not enough people bothered to even try it on PC in those days, but I feel like this is one of the most underrated scandals in video game history. Fuck...that...shit. I played this game on PS2 like it was my whole life though for a while LOL soooooo good.

Great review of one of my favorite games, but I wanna say I few things: 1. The spider reflex is actually useful, especially for harder enemies later in the game 2. The games main storyline is actually 5 hours 3. I respect your opinion full heartedly and appreciate you not acting like a fanboy, but I prefer the first 2 Sam Raimi spider films over the amazing ones, and it's not because of "nostalgia". I think people who like something because of nostalgia are ignorant. Sure, the execution of Peter Parker may have not been as good as it was in TASM1, but I preferred the story and villains of the Raimi films over the the newer ones. Plus, I'm a fan of Tibet Maguire, Kirsten durst, James Franco, Alfred Molina, jk Simmons and willem David, so that shouldn't come as a surprise. Once again, I enjoyed your review and I respect your opinion that you think the newer films are better. Btw, RIP Cliff Robertson and I hope Rosemary Harris stays strong.

Yeah Josh Keaton would have done a better job. I can't believe he was considered to be Spider-Man way before 2008 when Spectacular Spider-Man came out. Idk I only like Tobey came back in this game because it's consistency and he was in the movie. That's pretty much it. Can't blame him for trying and participating to be in the game. But he should have allowed himself to flesh himself out.

If there was one thing I'd opt to change about this game... it would have to be it's "economy" of Hero Points. I love them and all the ways you get them, but it feels like you complete most chapters without ever having to take to the streets and be a hero. Its a pretty quick main quest, and it could probably use the pacing. And Alfred Molina sounds like he's the only one who showed up and gave a shit.

All these years of playing this game, and I've never managed to 100 percent it. I have made it up to around 92.5 percent on my current save file, the closest I've ever been so far. Here's a list of things I've branded as "Impossible" though: -The final Daily Bugle mission (Two words: Roosevelt Island.) -Endurance Round 4 in the Battle Arena (100 enemies on one life bar, with so much projectile vomit that it makes dealing with spammers in fighting games seem like heaven.) -Some of the Insane difficulty challenges (Some are just too hard for me to complete, let alone mega time.) -Finding all 75 Secret Tokens (Unless you have a walkthrough, that is.) That's all I can really think of off the top of my head. Let me know if I missed any other impossible feats in this game. Maybe I could offer some tips if I've managed to do them. By the way, aren't there only 17 chapters in the game? You said there were 18 at one point in the review.

phenomenal1spiderman No not at all, Spider-Man in the comics was originally intended to be this everyman who gets lucky and receives Spider-Powers. The whole point of Spider-Man was that ANYONE could be Spidey. But in Webb's trilogy, they completely disrespected the character by making it his DESTINY to become Spider-Man as opposed to Peter being this everyman who just happens to get Spider-Powers out of pure luck. But since it was Peter's DESTINY to become Spider-Man in the Webb films, it completely disrespected what Spider-Man's character was originally supposed to be.

Honey Badger I still don't see how that really ruins the character of Spider-Man. Is it a little convoluted in terms of it's overall plot structure, sure. But that's what happens when you have the guys who wrote Star Trek: Into Darkness do Spider-Man, but in essence what I liked more about TASM as opposed to RSM is the fact that Spider-Man is allowed to be Spider-Man, he quips, he's cocky, arrogant, and down right disrespectful to the foes he goes up against, because that's who he is. In the RSM films that never happened at all. Spider-Man was practically a mute going up against his foes, and the one time he attempted to quip was the Green Goblin in an awfully placed joke "You who's out Gobby, out of your mind!" On top of that, Peter witnessed someone getting mugged in those films and did nothing to stop it. That's not who he is. He'd be beating himself up to hell if he ever witnessed something like that and did nothing to stop it. He ate a hot dog and walked away. From a character trait standpoint, I feel like Raimi's Spidey was not faithful to what the character should have been and that Webb's Spidey was by a bit more, both films have their pro's and cons but if I'm being honest, I get more enjoyment seeing Spidey in Webb's films than in Raimi's because I feel that for the most part that Spidey is being represented well. One minor complaint is that they failed in both films to show the genius of Peter. I mean, the dude runs his own science company now lol Not to say that Gwen isn't really intelligent either, but the fact that she's solving sixth grade science problems that Peter should have easily known himself was a bit of a dumb moment.

phenomenal1spiderman It ruins the character because that's not what Spider-Man's character is all about! They also destroyed the MAIN REASON why Peter became Spider-Man in the first place! You know what I'm talking about. That's right, Uncle Ben's Death. Now it was Ben's fault in the first place to engage the thief. Whereas in the comics and Raimi series, it was all Peter's fault. And since it was his fault to begin with, the guilt of it being his fault turns him into a superhero. In Webb's movies, it was Ben's fault that he died. Thus, defeating the whole purpose of why Peter became Spider-Man in the first place. Spider-Man makes quips in the Raimi films as well, you just have to pay attention. I'll give you some examples: Bonesaw: What are ya doin' up there? Peter: Staying away from you. That's a cute outfit, did your husband give it to you? Or... When Doc Ock and Spider-Man were battling in the bank they were throwing money bags at each other and Ock threw one at Spidey and Spidey caught it with his web and threw it back at Ock. Spider-Man: Here's your change! Or... Doc Ock: You're really getting on my nerves. Spider-Man: I have a knack for that. Doc Ock: Not anymore Or... Spider-Man: Settle down tough guy Goblin: Speak of the devil! Jameson: Spider-Man! I KNEW you two were in this together I kne---- Spider-Man: Hey kiddo, let mom and dad talk, will ya? Etc. My point is Raimi's Spider-Man DOES joke. It's just when shit gets serious, Spidey will get serious as well. Besides, there's more to the Spider-Man character than just cracking jokes and that is the only thing Webb's Movies got right except for the mechanical web shooters. Agreed. They both failed to show Peter's genius level intellect. I think we can expect to see that side of the character portrayed correctly when the 2017 Reboot comes around.

Honey Badger That's not entirely true. It WAS in fact Peter's fault due to his irresponsibility and temperament getting the better of him causing him to walk out and have Ben look for him. Ben also mentioned earlier in the film if anyone had the power to do the right thing it was their moral obligation to do that, a message that he held from Pete's dad, and he lived by that code which is why he felt the need to attempt to stop the robber that Peter could have stopped himself, but instead in a moment of spite to the store clerk who refused to let him get the drink, let the robber get away. It's near identical to the first film's minus Bruce Campbell and Randy Savage in a wrestling arena. So in fairness to the argument that's not entirely a valid point, and regardless of the small changes in origin something needed to change because the film was already being met with the criticism of "been here, done that" in regards to many things they attempted. One can argue that is was rushed, and I'll wholeheartedly agree with that, but it's another argument for another time. As for the RSM's quips, they're way too far in between and even so, just reading those lines make me scratch my head because I can literally recite the deadpan delivery of Maguire. When I think of Spidey quips I don't picture sophomoric insults, or deadpan delivery, I picture sarcasm and sharp wit, which is what Spidey is known for, and while in the first Amazing Spider-Man film didn't have too many of those moments, it attempted to do so, and ultimately in TASM2 it culminated to much more vocal Spidey with the best quip of the film being "a god named Sparkles?"It felt natural and more importantly it felt like something Spidey would say. Here, I have a few reference points for how I picture Spidey quips. Great review. I played the hell out of this game when i was a kid. One thing i always felt was underutilized in all other spider man games after this one was the web based combat. most games after this one reduced the webbing in combats to a projectile that stuns instead of an extension of spider-man like they did in this game.

I'd have to disagree about Tobey, I thought he at least tried in this game and was very engaged with most of the lines, same with the first game, better than the stuff the movies cooked up, which mostly was due to men script writing for the character of spiderman, even though we could of had Josh Keaton voice Spidey in the movie games, we didn't, If josh Keaton were to voice Spidey all the time I would love that but when I play a movie game, Spider-man was the start of me wanting authenticity, that I needed the movie's cast to make me fully feel emersed into the movie's universe. Plus Tobey's performance in this game and the first was far better than his and James Franco's performance in the third game, while Josh Keaton got demoted again down to just a random street thug. But hey It's better than nothing.

It is kind of shameful that Tobey Maguire voicing is very dry and more boring in this one than the first one. I really liked Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man but I wish he thought of adding some more lively personality. Since he wasn't acting in front of a camera and he already did everything he can to act like an overworked hero in the film he could and should have acted more lively. Though you can blame the fact he doesn't really voice act a lot. His only experience was the last game.

it was good, not my favorite spiderman game, that spot still belongs to the first ps1 game, but can't deny the game is fun, have you played the PC version of spiderman 2? god that game was intentionally made for kids, what a mind blow that the console version is seamlessly better that the PC one, the publishers gave a large middle finger to PC gamers and that angers me a lot

Rhymfre I'm not like that. Still it was unfair that the console version get's the best version and the PC gets left out. When the game came out, I still didn't own any of the 6th gen consoles, and I was thrilled to finally play it on PC until I got duped for it then I realized the PC version was a waste of investment. All versions should get the equal amount of content and not to be left out. I don't care about people with their gaming superiority complex, as the matter of fact if you ask me they can all fuck off, PC gamers still deserved a proper Spider-man 2 game.

The graphics sucked, Maguires voice acting made me sleepy... and the “open world” (particularly the crimes) felt robotic, monotonous and tedious.

To be fair, Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst are shitty actors to begin with. Actually KD is okay but not in Spider-Man. She butchered Mary Jane. So did the script.
