That’s screenwriting 101. Engaging characters use bits of information to navigate the plot, showing curiosity, intelligence and determination. Likeable qualities. Badly written characters are just given information and don’t actually learn for themselves, so they don’t deserve any credit or attention. If you want a memorable villain then make sure they try as hard as the hero to win. Don’t give them everything on a plate.

One of the things I love about this scene is the initial look on Peter’s face when he pulls the gun. There’s not a doubt in his kind that if he had to, Peter could rip the gun out of Tombs’ hand and never for a second be in any danger. It’s not until Tombs mentions his loved ones that Peter gets scared and doubts his ability to stop him.

ultragarrison Lol but it's closer than this. Michael here is old, bald, and is playing a completely different character. A fan made but arguably accurate hypothetical fight between the two fictional characters is a lot closer than an actor who once played Batman, having a "dad talk" with Spiderman, as the Vulture. But I think you know that already, and tbh, I just sense a lowkey salt over the fact that Spidey beat Batman in that fight. That's why you dismiss it so easily, and favour the idea of Michael being Batman in this video, because in this very scene, he has Peter Parker peeing himself. Typical Batman fanboy if I do say so myself.

You know, there's an alternative way to read this scene: that Peter isn't actually intimidated by the gun or the threats at all; that he knows he could just easily take the gun with his super reflexes, and that instead what's stopping him, what he's thinking about, is how this is all going to totally mess up Liz' life, no matter what. That's consistent with the first thing he says when he does confront the Vulture later "how could you do this to Liz". With this interpretation, the Vulture's threats are kind of tragic, and ironic; and Peter's hesitation is from compassion rather than fear.
@commanderkeen3787
@commanderkeen3787 3 жыл бұрын
Physically, Peter is faster and stronger than Vulture. Psychologically, he is not stronger. He's still a frightened kid and he was clearly scared during this scene. Toomes has killed before in cold blood, Parker has not. When you're eye to eye with someone like that, your "special powers" mean very little, it becomes about more a game of wits, and Parker is far less experienced than Toomes in the law of the streets
@Globeguy1
@Globeguy1 3 жыл бұрын
@@commanderkeen3787 He doesn't have to be psychologically stronger due to immense physical ability difference, do you think you can be intimidated by a 4 year old who talks tough? @commanderkeen3787 3 жыл бұрын
@@Globeguy1 The whole point of Spider-Man and the "With great power, comes great responsibility" line is that there is a young kid behind those incredible Spidey powers. Entering into a battle of wits with a hardened killer puts Peter at a disadvantage, he doesn't have the experience or killer instinct that Toomes does, regardless of how strong he is. Strength doesn't always give you the edge. Lex Luthor brings down Superman with Kryptonite. Knowing that he will never be a strong as the Man of Steel, he is smart enough to identify and exploit his weakness. That's the killer instinct that Peter lacks. For this reason I always wanted to see Peter take on Carnage, because it would be interesting to see how Spider-Man handles an actual serial killer
@ShnNar1000x
@ShnNar1000x 3 жыл бұрын
I think the fact that he was not actually intimidated at all is that he immediately went after Toomes the moment he left the car. No hesitation - he was going to get the guy, despite the threats against him and his family. In fact, the threats probably made him more determined. But he could not do anything at that moment in the car without giving himself away or creating a mess he could not explain.

Excellent, well-written scene. This shows that simple dialogue can still be more tense than a hundred CGI explosions. In the end, Toomes still protects Parker's identity
