There's a subtle bit of story telling going on if you have subs on throughout the game. For the first third of the game, whenever Miles speaks his subtitles say "Miles". But after he's made his own suit, his subtitles read "Spider-Man" from there on out.
@cryojudgement2376

Actually the subtitles say miles until spidey jumps off the rooftop and says "you're New Yorks ONLY spiderman" that's when his subtitles switch to spider man.

Yeah, and that scene also goes deeper. The guy who says "he is OUR Spider Man" is the guy that painted Peter's Spider Man on the wall, and told Miles "the OG is kinda my guy you know" when Miles asked if he was gonna paint the new Spider Man. So that guy ended up from not caring much about the new spidey, to calling him OUR Spider Man. Specially since he saw it was Miles too! Man, I was too invested in this game!!

Seriously? I hated this scene. Phinn did nothing wrong. The game seems to think that Phinn's plan was always a bad idea, but it didn't earn that conclusion. She and Miles argue about her plan, but before that's resolved, the question changes to one that's completely unambiguous and unrelated to the original. Like, of course Phinn wouldn't blow up Harlem, and her unwillingness to hear reason is totally contrived, or else it makes Miles the bad guy for being untrustworthy. So what's she even apologizing for?

@@IXPrometheusXI it's very hypocritical for her to be angry at Miles for not revealing his identity to her when she hid the fact that she was the Tinkerer. Again, they both kept their secrets, so what gives HER the right to be angry with him?

Agreed. Same thoughts. Looking more into this, this is the reason why the title is Spider-Man: Miles Morales. The story is not about Spider-Man / Peter Parker, The story, just like Into The Spider-Verse. The plot is about Miles. Being Miles and being Spider-Man. In his own way.

My favorite thing about the “Because I’m Spider-Man” line at the end is that throughout the game when people ask Miles why he keeps fighting his response is always “Because I made a promise.” That promise is the promise he made to Peter in the beginning of the game. He will protect the city until Peter gets back and then the weight is off of his shoulders. When Ganke says “you always mean the other Spider-Man and never yourself” it is true. Miles keeps fighting because no one else is in New York to uphold the promise he made to Peter. However, throughout the game Miles develops as his own hero until he eventually calls himself Spider-Man. At this point Miles finally understands the famous phrase “With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility.” I probably stumbled my words a bit but I think I got my point across.
@SkittlesInYourHand

I think that is the arc of Miles through the game. At the beginning he's fighting to live up to a legacy but in the end he's fighting to protect his home, which is why the guy at the end says "he's OUR Spider-Man"

Can we talk about how the climax feels so damn similar to the train scene in Spider-Man 2. Both Peter and Miles push themselves to their breaking points, holding onto the weight of an unstoppable force and where Peter stops the train, saves the people and is then saved by the people, Miles holds onto the energy of the reactor, the responsibility of being Spider-Man and though unwillingly, unloads it onto his friend because he realises he doesn't have to do it alone. Miles then returns, like Peter, to the people, the community he saved and though they all now know his identity, they keep it a secret and only see their saviour. They only see Spider-Man. Plus, listen to the soundtrack as Miles swings away! Tell me that doesn't sound like the music they play in Spider-Man 2!

One of the only big problems I had with the story is that the Roxxon guy... we didn't get enough of him. He is such a fun evil character I love how well they differentiate Miles from Pete. From the opening, you know how colourful life he had and how he's surrounded by people who love him. It feels so warm, compared to Pete's cold, lonely life. He only had May, MJ and Harry when he was Spidey and even then, he was alone when being a hero. It shows how they both may have similiar moral codes and personal strength in doing what's right, they are 2 different spiderman. They both are a friendly neighbour hood spiderman, but they both have their own journey to becoming it. It's kinda like when Pete says soemthing along the lines of doing the hard work so the future youth can have their pizza adventure. Miles has to struggle to learn to become spiderman but he' so lucky he has a mentor, someone who inspires him to become more but also that hardship is par of the resume.

Alex, the way you look at film and art in general, I feel like most content creators don't get into. What I mean is that, you look at art how it's meant to be looked at. This game isn't supposed to tell an extravagant story that we've never heard or seen before, it's supposed to improve on the prior's experience and still feel just as grounded. So thank you Alex, for truly looking at art how it's meant to be looked at. Literally, every video you post, every take you make I agree or agree to the most part. I dunno, I guess many people feel this way when they watch, but I truly you should have more support than you actually do. I truly appreciate the amount of effort you put in these videos. On top of that, you shoot short films, which is just mind-boggling. Not only do you do that you also try to watch as many movies as you can to try to be as grounded as possible on your takes. Cause as we know art is subjective, not everyone has to agree with you POV. But somehow I agree with everything you post or for the most part, so Alex please continue grinding and hopefully one day you might achieve your dreams of becoming a director.

Insomniac has done it again folks! This game is a narrative spectacular, with next-generation videogame features that allow you to truly live your life not just as Spiderman but as Miles Morales, arguably one the greatest Spidermen out of the infinite Spider-verse verse of Spidey's. I love Miles so much because I truly connect with his character and his passion for aiding his community, and what it must feel like to live up to your own name, as well as living in the shadow of a legend. I know that may seem preachy/cringy and you may not believe me but as an African, 18-year-old who was born from two heritages, I genuinely feel like there's a part of me that admires and feels like Miles sometimes ( and you may not believe me or judge me for what I've said, and that's fine, your rightfully entitled to say your own opinion about me). Spider-verse is one of my favourite superhero films of all time and love that people are acknowledging Miles as a true Spiderman in both the film and this game as well. Insomniac truly knows what it means to write Spiderman as much as Rocksteady and Telltale know how to write Batman, and they have a deeper understanding of the character and all Spider-man than even the film could perceive. Overall I love this game, I love the previous game, and I love Miles Morales. My favourite Spiderman quote about Miles is when Peter said to Miles: Peter: "Don't do it like me, Miles... Do it like you!"

The thing you said about Heroes saving people is what I believe separates the MCU from the DC counterpart: In most DC movies we don't see the heroes actually saving people (Wonder Woman being the exception), while in Marvel Movies that's their main focus. Take notice how in each and every one of them the heroes go out of their way to save people even during tense fights, how they try their best not to drag innocents in their battles. That's what a hero is supposed to be: Not someone who beats criminals, not someone who hates injustice, but men and women who try to help others. One of the greatest Batman moments of all time wasn't him beating a villain, but him comforting Ace, a little girl who was about to die, staying with her until the end so she doesn't have to be alone. The sheer power of seeing him carrying her body afterwards broke me as a child, because up to that point Batman was just a cool guy who fights bad guys, but afterwards he was something greater to little old me, he was the Batman. And that's why I despise people like Snyder for not getting Bruce, for not understanding such an amazing and enduring character, for changing him in such a way that he turns into a mockery of his real self. These moments, of pure heroism, where the characters do simple acts of kindness are the most powerful. That's why we weep when we discover Peter visited a young boy who would soon die from cancer, when Superman sits down with a suicidal girl and talks with her and when Wolverine acts like a father to his younger X-Men, these are the moments I live for when reading comics.

This game was amazing. You get to see how being Spiderman affects a different person altogether. Peter Parker is already used to the routine of being Spiderman and we get to see Miles learn that being Spiderman isn't a 100% happy life. For a kid to mentally grow up and accept the dark parts of reality is amazing to see.

I seem to remember you say that "Good Art makes you Feel something" from the Spider-man PS4 video you made. This video, especially at the 11:11 had tears fall from my eyes, and it hits me right in the feels,man. It such a great video! Keep up the good work!

Shits crazy sad when you realize that the reason Gloria was homeless in the 1st game was because her family kicked her out for being gay. 🏳️‍🌈 The game dosen't say it explicitly, But once you put the pieces together after playing Miles Morales you'll see it.

Oh wow....I didn't realize that. Sadly that's pretty reflective of reality. Lot of LGBTQ teens wind up homeless because their parents disowned them.

The last 5 minutes got me emotional. I can totally understand what you mean. Ever since my grandfather’s passing this month. It made me feel hopeless and I kept asking myself why. But the thing I learned is that I need to get back up for my friends and family. They need me no matter what and I need them. Life is hard for everyone, but we need to always cling on to the light. The only way to make us feel whole

This video has helped me in more ways than you can imagine Alex. The ending, where you talked about Miles moving forward. The way you said it, it brought literal tears to my eyes. The fact that there are other people who think the same way as me, the fact that I'm not weird. I've not been feeling myself lately, and I think I shd've watched this video when I had the chance. Thank you Alex, I love your work and keep it up! Once again, Thank you, you've made me feel better about myself, the way you talk about the things that you love, the words you say, they've made quite an impact one me. Much love

Hey, man. I don’t know if you’ll ever read this, but it’s definitely been a hard year. Just know you’re not alone. It’s like when Miles was narrating at the end of Spider-Verse... “and when I feel alone, like no one understands what I’m going through, I remember my friends who get it.” This world will heal, Alex. Everyone. As long as we stick together and be heroes in our own lives.

I cried in the final scene of this game. I relate to miles more than Peter but everything you said about this game was spot on. I have been telling my friends this is one of the best spiderman stories ever. I was infatuated with it & everything it brought. The subtle plot lines spoke to me & you had to really watch this as an interactive movie as opposed to a video game. Can't believe Insomniac has this pulse on spiderman & is creating good stories with the character. I look forward to the game when we get to switch between Miles & Peter ala GTA 5 vibes
