As someone who felt like Green Goblin was not, then best written villain in the first Rami film. It was so awesome seeing Dafoe give another great performance combined with (imo) better writing for Norman as a character. Alfred Molina was fantastic here as well. He slipped right back into this role after 15 years so effortlessly. In fact, the acting across the board was good to great. I’m a tiny bit conflicted about the ending, but I admire the movie for letting there be actually consequences that stick.

For me, No Way Home is the MCU best Spider-Man film, if not the best Spider-Man to date. Alfred Molina is solid and so is the de-aging effects on him. Defore is great, bringing back the Jekyll and Hyde aesthetic of the first film. This is definitely Tom Holland's best performance as Spider man. On a spoiler front, as someone who grew up with Sam Raimi's Spider-Man, I say with absolute sincerity, it's great to see Tobey McGuire back in the role. Especially since I felt that he along with Garfield's Spider-Man didn't got a proper sent off. No Way Home, in my opinion felt like it gave both SpiderMen that. Love the banter between the 3 generation of spider man.

I see why you feel the way you feel, and a lot of other people feel the same way. But take it from a lifelong comic book fan, that is actually Peter Parker. it's not so much that the movie in that way is bad, its Peter Parker himself. He's a very flawed character.

While I loved this movie. I was never one of those of people that had a problem with the whole 'iron spider' thing, and the way they pull the continuity back to more 'classic' spiderman feels like it strips a lot of things away that made this Spidey unique.

I didn’t mind the whole thing about Spider-Man being close to Iron Man. I liked seeing the Spider trackers which were in Homecoming because the 90s Spider-Man series had them. I think what some fans would have liked is if Spider-Man made the trackers on his own without Iron man’s help. I just wanted to focus on Spider-Man vs the villains at this point. With the Spider sense, he had it but it wasn’t as consistent as it was in the Rami and Marc Web movies. I think the Iron Man technology got in the way of his Spider sense. He didn’t kn9w how to get in touch with it. It was in Homecoming but it didn’t happen as often as it should.

You can tell that Jon Watts set up the ending of FFH as a lead in to the Spiderman vs Kraven the Hunter movie that he wanted to make, but then Marvel wanted to use the Multiverse stuff, so Jon had to somehow use the ending of FFH that was meant to lead into its own movie into this one, which is a shame because I would have liked to see that movie
@rsfilmdiscussionchannel41682 жыл бұрын
How? How did it feel like it was setting up a Kraven storyline? It could have but in light of this film it’s impossible not to see it as a Segway into the story of this film.
@cenobitecenobite73802 жыл бұрын
I definitely preferred FFH to Homecoming despite its character issues. Iron Man takes the place of his surrogate father instead of uncle Ben which is the effect of tying a bunch of movies together tying them to the web of the mcu. Some people will hate it but it’s a necessity of having everyone exist in the same continuity.

I agree with you that the second movie was far less good than the first, but this feels like basically a reboot, taking back Spiderman to the basics. I always felt the way Peter was added to the MCU, with the whole Tony Stark protege thing, was not a good idea - yes, we seen his origin story twice before, but Spider-Man is a neighborhood hero, and it felt weird seeing him take part in Civil War and fight Thanos. The whole "successor to Tony Stark" role also did not fit him. Glad they threw all that away, and instead turned him back to a more grounded, basic hero people can follow without understanding the larger scope of the MCU. The cameos and guests worked well, Electro especially got done far better, and I am glad they cured all the villains, killing them off was a big problem of these old movies - villains should recur, otherwise they are one-hit wonders. And Spiderman is a compassionate hero, that's why we like him... them. The other two Spideys were also great, and fun to see them together. Bit hard to keep track of them in combat, though. I did feel killing Aunt May was a tad too much, granted, we never saw uncle Ben die in this universe - maybe was necessary to take Peter back to step 1.

Grumble, grumble, forgetting the first live action Spider-Man, Nicholas Hammond. He even said he wanted to be in it.
@catspawgardner32132 жыл бұрын
That is a good point that Peter doesn't go to the Dean of the college to plead his case even his Aunt May would've told him that. If he did that & the college still rejected him & his friends then Peter should've went to Dr. Strange to work the spell.

It's weird when people complain that you need to watch the other movies to get up to speed on the newer MCU films. If you're not into the MCU at this point, then why bother watching these new entries in the first place knowing how much homework you need to do to be on the same page?
@jamesatkinsonja2 жыл бұрын
Fair point but there are entries which new comers can watch [Black Panther is fairly 'Stand Alone' for example]. This film might attract people who are coming for the previous series Spiderman characters returning so the heads up is useful in this case.

*Spoilers ahead!* SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME has all the fan service we've been expecting, but it's not as funny as HOMECOMING and FAR FROM HOME. During the final battle, the title character asks Dr. Strange to cast a spell to make everyone forget who Peter Parker is (but not who Spider-Man is) in order to save the multi-verse. Here's the problem: During the first act, Strange had already tried to cast it, but Peter kept mentioning the names of people he wanted to not be affected by the magic. The spell went wrong and that's why the multi-verse got in danger in the first place. OK, but it's because Strange couldn't concentrate, not because his magic wouldn't be able to make exceptions. Therefore, there's no reason why he couldn't add those conditions during the second attempt. It comes off as an excuse to show a heroic sacrifice, but if the hero doesn't actually have to sacrifice anything, there's no dramatic weight. Also, memories are erased, but the past isn't changed in any way. This makes no sense, considering the events that wouldn't have happened had it not been for Peter (unmasked)! For example, Happy Hogan remembers his relationship with Aunt May. How does he think he met her?! And there's no indication that the spell erased physical evidence that would make people remember Peter. There's a scene where the Green Goblin mask is broken and I think it's because many viewers don't like its design (something I don't personally agree with). Was there no other way to execute this moment than to have Norman Osborn swing a rock?! Literally once?! Oscorp has so much advanced technology, yet the material is fragile like glass?! Flash Thompson (Peter's douchy classmate) publishes a book where he falsely claims to be Peter's friend. A while later, he gets into M.I.T. while Peter and his friends don't, due to all the bad publicity. Wait, then why wasn't Flash's application rejected too? Speaking of Peter's friends, Ned Leeds asks Tobey Maguire's version of Peter if he has a best friend. He replies "I did. He died in my arms... after he tried to kill me." Why are the important details omitted (Harry Osborn turned good and he died protecting Peter)? Because the focus is on Ned's shock. I guess humor has to be prioritized over logic? 7/10

Something else about the movie that may explain your points regarding actors is that originally, No Way Home was supposed to come out after Doctor Strange 2. The pandemic led to Marvel Studios rearranging the lineup and rewriting NWH to take place before MoM. Plus, not every actor had signed up when filming began (some believe Tobey was one of the last actors to do so).
