I just love how Namor the Submariner is built like an 80 year-old bodybuilder. He's seriously got that muscular old man physique. He even walks and throws punches like an elderly boxer. And it actually even does _kinda_ make some kind of sense (but not completely); The Submariner's first appearance was in 1939, when he was already an adult, and he fought in World War II alongside Captain America. But unlike Cap, who survived to the present day unaged by getting locked in suspended animation from being frozen in a block of ice floating in the Atlantic, Namor is much more like another one of Cap's contemporaries from WWII: a certain man called Logan, more widely known as Wolverine in the present time period, whose Mutant healing factor retards his aging and allowed him to live normally through the years to the present day while still remaining in his prime. (Logan was actually already almost 100 years old when he met Cap in Madripoor during WWII.) Namor has also lived normally through the years since the 1930s like Logan did. Namor McKenzie's combination of Mutant _and_ Human/Atlantean Hybrid physiology gives him an extremely extended lifespan similar to Logan's, but a lot of those years were some pretty rough living. For at least several decades after WWII he lived on the streets of New York as a homeless amnesiac. Those several decades of rough living must have really taken their toll on his body and health and so that's why he looks like the equivalent of an 80 to 90 year old human, when his actual biological age compared to humans should be closer to somewhere in his mid-30s.

I remember playing this game at a camp site in Wildwood, NJ at the arcade they had there back in the day. Good times those sure were too. The now demolished Shore Mall in Egg Harbor Township, NJ also had the game in their arcade there for a brief period of time a little over 15 years ago as well.

In Marvel it's common for heroes to share certain villains as adversaries. I guess since Kingpin is the main crime boss in Marvel comics and most stories are in New York, then it's natural that most street level heroes would have him as a villain. Similar to Doctor Doom serve as a Fantastic 4, Avengers, and Dr. Strange villain

Not really dad's bodies. Namor is actually pretty muscular, just very unaesthetic looking. And Alex, just being super fit and active wouldn't necessarily give you a great physique - for an example, check out Paddy Doyle, record breaking fitness athlete.

Because Namor had a brand new series by John Byrne at the time this game was made, and Marvel decided to kill to birds with one stone and use this game to make promotion of the new series, so they put Namor in this instead of a more logical choice like Daredevil.

Only special versions of MAME have netplay. In this case, I used the version MAME++ 0.112 because the more commonly used MAME++ 0.119 has a problem playing this game online. There is also a version called MAMEHub, which might be able to play it online, but I never tried it.

I'm using raspberry pi 3 version 4.2 and the only way to get the game booted is to use lr - mame2010 or 2016 and it's sluggish. What would you recommend? Everything else goes to black screen

As a boy (born in 1985 so my young years were 90s mainly) I would read loads of marvel material and more often I would see Sub Mariner show up in comic books and feature length novels. I almost didn't know Aquaman existed until Hurricane Helms in WWE mentioned having a tattoo of him and the justice league on tv. My bias is towards Mariner. I think he looks more accurate for a sea dwelling humanoid.

There are multiple ways to play online. My choice for this game was MAME++ 0.112, while I would normally use MAME++ 0.119 or 0.134. There is also MAMEHub, which has a netplay feature, and the emulator Retroarch might also work. A popular way to play basically any game online is the program Parsec, which streams your screen to the other player. For Neo Geo games, I have played them online with both MAME++ 0.119 and 0.134, but the other methods I mentioned should work. Parsec is likely the best option, assuming that your internet is fast enough to stream and you have Windows 8.1 and up, which is needed to host, but not necessary to connect to another person hosting.
