Spidey's debut to the arcades and for his first game it isnt too bad. I love the music, the graphics complement the comic style really well, the voice acting is great for the time apart from Venom, its has all the best villains that Spidey faced and the gameplay is strong. This is one of the most unfair games ever made in the arcade: the character loses vitality all the time, even when he shouldn't - he loses when he's hit (ok), when he hits something(?), when he walks, when he stands still. I grew up at that time and I know that machines were made to extract as much money as possible from players, but this game was way past the acceptable limit. And that spoiled the player experience.
@SuperN1ntendoChalmers3 жыл бұрын

I really loved this game as a kid. The one thing that drove me nuts was we NEVER got a home console version of this game, so the only way you could ever play it was in arcades (while it was still around, I saw it a lot in the early 90's but eventually it just disappeared). This game and The Punisher and Total Carnage were three games I never saw home console ports of, but apparently The Punisher did get a Sega Genesis version, and Total Carnage got a Snes version, but both were incredibly rare and I never saw them for rental or purchase. This is as close as we would get to spiderman as a movie as a kid in the arcades before they finally made the spiderman movies literally a decade later. I never understood who the heck the grunt enemies were in this game though 6:58 wtf did Venom say??? I remember Arcades were always so loud you could never understand what the characters or bosses were saying since you could BARELY hear the music as well! You could always hear the bass track but not much detail. That was why this game was cool because it had comic chat bubbles so you could at least read what the dialogue was. It was probably a good thing because another commenter said they liked the music in this game, and it isn't bad, but it is really goofy like the drums or beat is kind of off kilter This game was definitely not as fun playing solo, you have to play with 2-4 players to get the full experience, in Arcades this was very fun but most people didn't get past the 2nd level since the best part fighting Venom was at the start. I thought the animation in this game from like the hero falling down and getting up is really quite good, and the full sized sprites and artwork is top notch. It was a looker back in the 1991 days until Mortal Kombat came along with its digitized graphics and huge sprites. The best thing we had up to this point was like Spiderman on Sega Genesis I think. Hawkeye was always my favorite (until he got put into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and they ruined him with his bad bow work in the first Avengers movie) in the 90's video games, so I would always play Hawkeye in this game. It was really weird at 17:40 you had these fun platformer like stages in the Arcades with 3 other players but somehow they never thought this would be a good game to bring to the home, really dumb on the developers part because this was a pretty long game too. Maybe the sprites and detail was just too much for any home console like the Snes and they said it wouldn't be worth trying to convert it, or something. I had no idea Doctor Doom was the final boss of the game but he is pretty cool in this With how some of the heroes and bosses stand and walk, I wonder if they did rotoscoping for the animation to get it more realistic and that is why Spiderman walks and gets up so strangely.
@newwaveknight111 ай бұрын
