I think Spiders are amazing. They are beautiful to watch when they are spinning webs. I think when dewdrops get caught on the web is the best part because it's simply beautiful.

I watched a spider spin a web last night. That is why I am watching this video. I wanted to see more! I sat mesmerized for an hour watching his every move and was blown away by how he kept all the rings so evenly apart. He was all over the place without any blueprints that I could see. Yet he knew what to do. Amazing! I lightly missed the web with my water hose to bring out the pattern. It was beautiful!. He did not stop working until he was in the center of his web and there he stayed.

Thats one smart spider. It's using the light as a lure and it's web to catch bugs. Almost guaranteeing a couple of catches a day.

One more reason to like spiders; calculate the amount of flies, moths and mosquitoes they catch, so they won't sting you, sit in your lunch after walking on some rotten carcass or ruin tour wooly clothes. Same applies to bats in North America and most of Europe as well.

Very cool! If you look closely, you can see the spider use its two hind legs to apply tension to the silk as it comes out. This is apparently how the liquid silk is hardened.

Spiders are really cool. I have a similar spider living outside my garage, building its web near the security light (so it catches those moths that come out at night!) I was actually sad because I thought it died - it was hanging upside down in the middle of the web one night. Turned out it was just moulting.

i don't know if you are aware, but spiders are really the best at geometry. Their web is built with precise accuracy for each little rectangle. I didn't realize this til recently. Its amazing but I wonder how did they start the entire process.

i guess it's interesting because it's regularly organizing space and this action resembles human work: we see there is an intelligence behind it (and the "intelligence" at work here is the natural selection that eliminates the least fit spiders - natural selection=death of the least fit and not survival of the fittest - thanks to my biology teacher for explaing us).

Do spiders need light to build their webs? I'm guessing they do to start with so then can see where to fix the main supports, but once that's done, they can do the rest by "touch" as this spider seemed to be doing. Does anyone know?
