I could talk for hours only on how good the ending scene with curt and Owen is a live chat about the whole musical would be so long. There is so much to be said about this show and like little details you notice as you rewatch it (one of the best ones you might have not notice- in the act one ending scene when curt says "Owen" you can see the DMA reaching to the back of his head to check if the mask fell off).

Some fun facts about this one that I haven’t seen mentioned in the comments yet: the number of kills that the DMA had is the number of Kickstarter backers who funded this show. Also the pictures that Lauren’s character shows are backer pictures that we sent in. I also pledged a stupid high amount of money to this show and got to do a spy style dead drop to get my tickets. That is to say that they sent me an address of a park where I met Joey in a trench coat who handed off my tickets to me in an envelope marked “SECRET” while Corey took pictures from the bushes. It was hilariously fun.

​@@Barbara2.0 It really was. It was just such a fun way to get my tickets. The pictures are hilarious. My favorite fun experience was that I got as a backer was I got to go to the first table read of the show. THAT was wild. Especially the first time Joey did the Sergio bits and when Joe was doing the American in the casino scene. Both of those broke everyone into giggles for the longest time. I also met Joey's parents who are the sweetest people in the world. They brought water and snacks for everyone (backers and cast alike). By that point the TCB guys knew me pretty well from meeting and chatting at multiple events over the previous 3 years or so, so I wasn't surprised when they took a break after the Nazi song and Joey came over to give me a hug. I was a bit surprised that he wanted my opinion on whether the Nazi song was "too much". Knowing full well that 2/3 of the writing team and some of the cast/crew are Jewish, I figured if they're okay with it then it's fine. According to Brian, when I chatted with him after the last show, they did over the course of the run have a few people walk out during that song, which is fair, but most people seemed to understand that it was meant as a parody/sendup of the Nazi villain trope and not take it seriously. This show is one of my favorite things I've ever been a part of backing and I'm still holding out hope for a sequel one day.

I’ve been a fairly high level backer for every show since Twisted so I’ve gotten to spend time with a lot of time with the Starkid/TCB/Shipwrecked folks because of backer rewards and have had a lot of fun experiences and been privy to a lot of behind the scenes stuff. I’ve also gotten to meet a lot of great folks both in cast/crew and other fans.

i LOVE how the plot twist is basically impossible to predict simply because of the medium. like in a spy movie, you could reasonably expect that kind of disguise to be used, but since it's a musical it doesn't even register as a possibility. but then they PULL IT OFF. the foreshadowing is there, it makes sense, but because it's not a movie and there's no CGI it never even crosses your mind. I LOVE THIS SHOW UGH

Also, the use of irony in not so bad is in my opinion, the best thing about it, for example: -Brian Rosenthal (Von Nazi) is Jewish -Volkswagen was a nazi scam -Hugo Boss over recent years have been causing loads of small companies to go out of business -Adidas and Puma caused a really bad rivalry between the two brothers who started them -Wiener Schnitzel is Austrian, not German

"Well, Mr. Curt Mega, if that is your real name," is by far the funniest joke in the show. (If you don't get it, it's because the actor's name is really Curt Mega. They named the character after him.)

Ok so comments: (spoilers ahead if people haven't seen the show) -Spy is said around 116 times in the show -We love Sergio Santos -I'd watch an entire musical about Sergio -We all feel the same about Lauren -Poor Barb, she definitely is too good for him -Talkfine did the music for this (who are the band that used to accompany loads of starkid shows, they also wrote the ani music) -The lighting is incredible in this show (fun fact at one point in the first number curt is in a blue light and Owen is in a red light) -Yeah this is a lot more serious than most starkid shows, there's still plenty of comedy there though, despite how sad it is -"I'm kind of afraid of this song" Yeah everyone is- it's also way too catchy for what the song is -YES TORTURE TANGO -For Tatiana's part in Torture Tango there's a key change and it changes to the same key that coldest goodbye is sung in, so she's technically singing that rather than the opening number (which is very symbolic to me because of the DMA Owen thing) -The gasp at the Curt gay reveal was amazing -"I cannot deal with the twists in this-" oh boy you definitely weren't ready for Owen -Ngl I'd use the informant's monologue for an audition -The gasp at the DMA you're not ready -Ok you're the most relatable person ever watching that reveal -This is why this is my favourite show for people to react to -Owen's speech is incredible, so is the coldest goodbye reprise and it's a crime it isn't on the album -"Ok this show needs to chill out" Literally everyone watching it And this is why it's my favourite Starkid, tcb, etc show of all time

Torture tango and Coldest Goodbye (both original and reprise) are my favorite songs. Also, when DMA sings "to show you the horrors of staying alive" Curt sings "doesn't even matter that I killed my best friend". The foreshadowing in this show is awesome lol.

SAF is that one show I can watch a million times and still be as emotionally invested as before. Curt feels like a typical spy for a point: you can never completely see who a person is, what they've been through and who they loved from the outside. That's why Owen is in disguise, you thought you knew him but on the inside of the mask he was someone completely different. Take the lyrics of The Coldest goodbye, and apply them to both Owen and Curt, it basically tells you the entire plot. "Lurking in the shadows, Watching your every move. Tall dark and dangerous, A man with nothing to loose. Women can't resist him, (Referring to Deadliest Man's brutal murders of girls, and Curt and Barb, who is my baby no one touch baby Barb) Villains can't escape. The sharpest of shooters, Your heart he'll break." Also, "The warmest hello to the coldest goodbye" In conclusion, this show is a masterpiece.

The reason everyone was asking whether it was about spies is that Tin Can Bros. promoted the show with trailers and ads that ended with the unnecessary line: Spies are Forever! It's about spies! So everyone started posting ironic comments asking what the show was about, and it kind of snowballed.

Honestly, who doesn't love Lauren. I really really love Torture Tango and Somebodies gotta do it, the best songs lol. There is the possibility of a SaF two, which the cast has talked about doing some time in the distant future, which would be amazing. The side characters are really good, and I think of the best things have Tin Can Bros is that they tend to focus more on the characters including side characters whereas Starkid is slightly more plot-based.

His sexuality does have a little bit to do with a plot but it's very subtle. Kurt is extremely closeted but there's a really good reason for him to be closeted in this time. There's this thing called the pink scare it was around the same time as the Red Scare it's not generally well as publicized because it's specifically about attacking gay people but basically around the time when this musical takes place people who were gay and exposed would be immediately removed from government jobs and blacklisted and that is very bad for Kurt he was a spy. And you know then the main thought being about a large distribution of information that would make it very hard to keep a secret like that and who the villain ultimately is his sexuality is a little bit important but it's not like super important since someone sexuality not being important in the story seems to matter to some people for some reason. Sorry that sounds a lot more bitter than it should

19:03 Ok so I know this was posted a while ago and it was also your first reaction but I do feel like Curt being gay is part of the plot. Obviously spies put on a lot of personas (see: the Informants monologue) but being gay in the 1960s 100% adds another layer to Curt's kinda douche-y personality in the first half of the play. The more you overcompensate for being a Bond-esque spy in every other way, the less people are going to notice that you don't have a woman love interest. And he literally grows a beard after Owen dies, "beard" also being a term used for faking a straight relationship to throw off suspicion of being gay. He doesn't really start being a better person until Tatiana says shes fine with him being gay and establishes herself as a person who supports every that part of him And (though you wouldn't have seen this at this point) when he's trying to convince Owen to stop Chimera at the end, he once again brings up the fact that they're both gay in the 1960s. He points out that even that secret wouldn't be a secret with Chimera's development, and implies that Chimera's level of information gathering would endanger people I do agree (and appreciate) that the entire story doesn't revolve around him being gay, but it is an important part of his character development

During the opening of the second act, when Joey is giving his monologue to the audience, the guy who goes "wohoo" or something like that is Darren Criss (Harry Potter from AVPM). He is also the guy that goes "I don't think so" in Twisted when the princess ask if Aladdin is trying to get into her pants. Darren is known to go to the shows and support his friends and even make this kind of things as an audience member.

For me it's Spies are forever. (singing all the parts is hard though) Spy again (something about it makes me always come back to it) Eyes on the prize I (it's too high for me but I still love it) Prisoner of my past (it makes me feel like I'm in a sad music video) Doing this (the awkwardness)

This is one of the most rewatchable shows ever. There are so many moments I didn't even notice the first time that broke my heart upon rewatching. Like the fact that Owen literally tortures Curt in torture tango. It's dark to begin with but you don't realise just how dark when you watch it the first time...
