Christian Conversion (The Myth/Exaggeration/Deception) We keep hearing about the danger of Christian missionaries forcing, deceiving and bribing people to convert. Is this really so? Christianity started in India in 52 AD when Thomas, one of the immediate disciples of Jesus, came to India. A lone man with no money and no weapons. He had witnessed the deeds of Jesus, first hand. He alone, through preaching, converted 30,000 people and built 7 churches in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, long before Christianity reached Europe and America was even formed. Please note, this was within 2 decades of Jesus' death and (arguably) His resurrection. Thomas was killed in Chennai and is buried there at St Thomas Mount. This was the start of Christianity in India. Since then, thousands of missionaries have come. The French, the Portuguese have been here and then the British have ruled for 200 years. They all set up thousands of churches, hospitals, schools, colleges, old age homes, charity organisations, orphanages, drug and alcohol rehab centres, leprosy missions etc etc etc. With so much of power and influence, how many did they convert? Over 2000 years, taking India, Pakistan & Bangladesh as one country, about 1% of the population. If you compare Islam's conversion, during Mughal rule, that number is nearly 50% of the Indian Subcontinent population. In fact, the British inadvertently saved India from becoming an Islamic country. How can anyone be "forced" to convert unless a gun is placed on their head? If someone is paid to convert, how much can missionaries pay and how can they force anyone to follow Christ after they leave? This is silly logic! In fact, if you are a Christian, you are asked to donate money to the church and poor. It's the other way around. Ofcourse, the objective of missionaries is to convert. No denying that. They are on a "mission" that's why they are called missionaries. This is because Jesus Himself asked his followers to spread His message all over the World. In His teachings He specified no use of force and also unless one truly gives himself to Christ, it would be useless. But Jesus also said that His followers should feed the poor and sick. This is what missionaries do. It is they who leave the comfort of their expensive homes and risk their lives to preach, what they believe, is God's Word. It is they who are mocked, persecuted and killed. What do they gain? Fame and Money? Nope! Nothing. All they are trying to do is spread the Love of Christ to people, for what they believe, is the for the good of those people. It is their faith and love. It is not hate. Of course people may not believe in Jesus but Jesus commanded his followers to be "harmless as doves" and "love their neighbours" and "pray for their enemies". Jesus also forewarned them that they would be killed like "lambs among wolves". That's what missionaries do. They risk their lives However, no denying that there will be corrupt and deceiving false preachers too. But Jesus has already said that they would be judged harder than normal sinners, in the Hereafter. Now it it took 2000 years to convert 1% of India's population. At this rate, I guess it would take another 200,000 years for India to be fully converted. Oooh that's really dangerous and scary for Hindus!😊😬😇🙏
