Spike's touching rendition of the Beatles classic, with a few camera issues...

Interestingly, Sir Paul returned the compliment on a Wogan show. Celebrating Spike’s birthday, he started singing “Yesterday”, but broke into the “Ying-Tong” song. Genius x 2.

If EVER there was a man who could simply make you laugh just be being alive, it was Spike Milligan

in my fervid imagination i have spike strolling through the living room one thursday night when his kids were watching TOTP and glancing at it. after wondering where all the jazz had gone he thought 'why can't the beeb employ any decent camerapeople and vision mixers?'.... but, instead of just getting grumpy, he went directly to his typewriter and this came out! a comic genius, sorely missed...

Better having a surviving episode in a grayscale 16mm telerecording than being lost in the color master tape. I hope they'll recover the color as they did with Dad's Army and release one of Q5's surviving episodes and/or the whole series of Q6-Q9 in 2018.. What would have been Spike Milligan's 100th birthday.

Ordinarily, I don´t like people covering Beatle songs, but I´ll give this one a pass. 🤣
