The scene where both Joy and Evelyn take a break and separate themselves from the noise and become rocks. There is finally a moment to be vulnerable and honest among the chaos of our unpredictable and chaotic world and it brings me to tears, then the "I just want to be here with you" scene at the end just devastates me every time lol.

I noticed on one of my recent viewings that the only universe where things “work out” for Evelyn is the universe where she went blind and became a singer. When I was a kid I was being vocally trained in singing and specifically opera. I had to stop around middle school due to extreme stage fright, but often wonder about the opportunities I turned away from just because I was a scared kid. The details of abilities that were listed in that universe included “high self confidence” and “loving relationship with father”. Having her eye sight taken from her, not worrying how others saw her, gave her the reality she always truly wanted

this has probably been said already, but I love how in the end, Deirdre says, "Evelyn, did you hear me?" It feels so human and wholesome to hear that after talking to each other about each other's issues, they started calling each other by their first names (technically we didn't see Evelyn refer to Deirdre on a first-name basis but I have hope)

I've watched this film over 10 times, and it was only sometimes after the 10th I realized Evelyn had a flyer for Voice Lessons on one of the washing machines (seen during the Waymond & Rick dancing scene). Deidre also mentioned that Evelyn is "apparently a singing coach" based on what she was trying to deduct.

This movie is so tightly written. It's like a ball of yarn, something that is so tightly wrapped up into something small that then unfurls itself to reveal so much. I love how it uses something as large scale as a multiverse narrative to explore something as seemingly small scale as the family dynamics. It took me a few viewings to realize just how perfect the opening scene is. Every single theme that is in the film is firmly established in that first 10 minute scene. It is a beautiful film that has brought me to tears multiple times and just gets better every time i watch it.

i remember looking back on that first shot of eeaao after my second watch, realising what was happening - evelyn, waymond and joy in a moment of pure intimacy using the karaoke machine - and seeing it line up with the significance of the paperwork for evelyn's taxes with the karaoke machine being specifically circled. it was an attempt for her to pursue something she loves, a way to break up the life she'd come to somewhat regret, and a way to bring her family together in a way beyond words, her language for love always being so limited. there's also the voice lessons flyer in the laundrette which im pretty sure was evelyn being a singing coach. her methods of finding joy (the feeling, not the person, but i suppose that would fit too lol) were all being sorta scrutinised with deidre, all these failures she had, and i could never quite explain how it connected to the rest of the film but this video helped :)

The greatest tragedy of the karaoke machine is that it is all simply a misunderstanding and miscommunication. Dedre thinks that it is the most obvious and blatant sign of tax evasion, because a karaoke machine is used exclusively for pleasure and entertainment. So she imposes her assumptions onto Evelyn, that the story it tells of her life is not good, that it is an indictment on her character. And when Evelyn responds with "I am a singer", Dedre sighs with exhaustion and contempt because that is so obviously a lie. But the truth is... the karaoke machine can constitute a business expense. Her business is holding a Chinese New Year party to attract frequent customers and increase customer loyalty. The karaoke machine is an activity at the event. It can easily be defended as something bought for the business, and not for the personal. But Evelyn simply lacks the language and business skills to articulate this idea to Dedre. "I am a..... singer" is a very broken English, simplistic understanding of language, the same way one would talk in sentence for high school German or Italian. Very formulaic, use a template of verbs and adjectives and simply switching the nouns to fit the situation. It is also shows how a society focused solely on production and profit, with very little respect for the artistic value of individuals, deems the statement "I am a singer" as invalid purely because that skill is not profitable. Even though singing is a skill which Evelyn possess and has the potential in other lives to improve and turn into a career, because it is not her primary job it's seen as "just a hobby"

The first time I saw EEAAO, the final fight on the stairs. But now I really like the scenes before Evelyn sees everything bagel. It's a really necessary set-up for the emotinal climax later. Son Lux did an amazing job with that suspense music. Approximately between 1:34:00 and 1:37:30

If you look closely, in many scenes of Deirdre coming to the laundromat with the cop, Jobu Tupaki secretly appears in many of them in the background. Stephanie Hsu said in an interview that she wanted to create the impression that Jobu is everywhere and a sense of multiverses, and the Daniels thought that was amazing and actually adopted this suggestion

Great video! I just watched eeaao for a second time and the first time since the theater and it had the exact same impact on me. So few films beg for multiple viewings the way this on does. The fact that it exists at all feels like some sort of miracle. I truly believe it is one of those rare masterpieces that will stand the test of time, continuously reach audiences of successive generations, and come to epitomize the medium of film and what it has the power to do.

I don't even need to watch the video to give you a thumbs up and a share to know Everything Everywhere All At Once is a gem. Its symbolism is everything. From an object so simple in daily life meaning a whole concept to more complex issues and emotions portrayed in the movie. Watching your video though, allows me to learn more and more about the movie I have seen dozens of times now. I still get teary, because I was relating to this movie with its core plot and situations that Evelyn faced. It felt I was watching a mirror of my life and the emotions I had exactly as she was recounting her past and dealing with her present. There is so much more to the movie than what is on the surface.

Indeed Everything, Everywhere All At Once is more than just a chaotic, comical film about the ups and downs of immigrant families. Somehow there's layers that need to be stripped down in order to know the genuine meaning of this whole film. While it may not totally make sense (a few scenes here and there) but I do believe they all serve a purpose, in some way.

Idk why people leave out the mirror in their analysis…probs bc it’s the most mundane of the three circles 😅 in part, the film rejects dichotomies in favor of a more dialectical acceptance of the merging insanity of constantly fracturing reality (literally in the film, but also the lived experience in today’s world). Which Yin and Yang is supposed to symbolize, but often gets conflated with more black and white thinking. We got a Venn Diagram. I also think of the mirror not just in the cracking, but the parallel realities, with that infinite effect you get with parallel mirrors facing each other. And isn’t that what a mother and a daughter are? A reflection of each other’s future and past, hopes, dreams, expectations, disappointments, fears, mistakes, etc.

I was born and raised in a cult (Mormon). I had been groomed/brainwashed since I was a baby to know that the church was true. When the day of questioning came around, I was 16 and it destroyed me. Ok folks, today's your lucky day. Originally, I wanted to talk about the karaoke machine book-ending which is supposedly the 2h40s original cut before Paul Rogers made it into its 2h19m cut but… Let's talk about the solution to Nihilism instead. Just like how Evelyn has to traverse the multiverse to discover that her universe is the best-est universe because she got to do taxes and laundry with Waymond, maybe that is also our solution to Nihilism. If Evelyn's solution is simply to look away for a moment, the solution to Nihilism is simply to look away or look into other possible universes for a few moments. To put this problem in reverse, why do we want a more restrictive universe when we have Freedomland-USA-Universe? Sure, maybe we don't have a choice, but our universe seems to come with the most freedom out of all the different universe configurations of inherent meanings, partial meanings, inferred meanings, and extrinsic meanings. We can chart our own destination just fine. Do we really want a universe with more meaning? Nihilism solved. Quod erat demonstrandum.

Try not to get annoyed at other people enjoying a movie, I'll be honset, I can be guilty of it too. The reason this movie is so highly praised is because it speaks to so many on a personal level. We can relate to the depressed nihilistic teen, we can relate to the mother who feels life has passed her by with nothing to show, we can relate to the father who tries to bring joy to his family sometimes appreciated, often not. It brings us closer to the movie, 5-10 minutes in and we're already invested. Then like life itself, the movie throws chaos into the mix. There's so much going on and you can track each element but overall the film wants you to know that despite this chaos, there are things that matter and you can use chaos to your advantage. I am not so good at explaining this but really, I think in this time especially it is such an important film. I mean just to look at the bagel and nihilism, I know myself, I wonder what the point is a lot of the time. Why continue? I need this film to remind me to take a moment to appreciate the small things, to look into my own mirror.
