Great video, the different steps were very nicely explained. It was a pleasure to watch it. I also prefer more busts and display pieces, that's where the art form is much stronger, but I fully understand "the GW aproach". I think that from time to time if some nice GW sculpt will be painted it would be OK.

There's nothing embarrassing about that, I feel the opposite - I have *too* many GW mini's, but I have the older legacy models, for the most part. As for the oil painting, I yet to find the time for it (that's life, unfortunately!), But I do like your technique and will be applying it (or at least my approximation of it) when I finally find the time.

Do you think you could do the same method as you shown for the armor with purple ? like start at a dark purple and work up to the highlights ? i want to use the same method but idk if it will work the same

You can just be mindful that purple is a darker color, so the highlights should be smaller and more stark. So shadows could be violet, midtones purple with small accents of lilac in the brightest highlights.

Thanks for the video, they are great. I really appreciated the 'shading tones schema' that you added when painting parts. I'm juste curious about two things. First, when you mix your tones on your wet palet, it seems very 'watery'. I also have the luck to have kimera paints and I know they are 'creamy'. Do you add water on your brush before mix it or is it your wet palet default behavour ? Second and last, I watched your 3 videos and you seem to never use an airbrush, is there a specific reason or mindest behind (like why use an airbrush when using oil paint give smooth transition) ? Thanks for watching and posing the questions! 1. The brush is loaded with water to thin the paints, yes. This is especially true for the schmincke white that is very thick. If you look at the way the darkest tone in my mix behaves around 1:50 you can see that the paint pulls together when i move my brush away from the pool of paint. This tells me that the paint is fairly dilute so i shouldn't add more water. It also tells me that the wet palette paper is doing its job. The higher value mixes for the skin arent as thin as the shadow tone. 2. The airbrush is a great tool for some things. I really like it for subtle filtering acrylics and base coating. And yes, with the oils i like the finish of the paint better than the acrylics through the airbrush. The airbrush leaves a visible texture on the model IMO so I'm quite careful when using it. The oil paints usually gives me the smoothness i'm looking for.

How do you keep kimera paints from looking chalky

I've only had the chalky issue when painting a color that was very bright over a very dark undercoat or when thinning the paints too much

Det er vandet der trækker sig igennem papiret på paletten. Jeg bruger bagepapir som ikke er silikonebehandlet fra jan niezbędny (polsk mærke) - det fungerer virkelig godt for mig.

I love your videos, I've been recommending them to everyone at paint night at my local hobby shop. I would FAR prefer more busts and display pieces, that's where the art form is pulling me personally and almost every miniature painting channel seems mostly GW focused (understandably so due to what's popular).
