The just sanded them down and used same product as floor!

I’d build a bath house to save your floors. That way you have an outdoor space to use the restroom without tracking water into the house.

Floors are ALWAYS expensive. Edit: but if you did the WHOLE house it's not bad at all. For 1,000 sq feet it's $16,000 here. I don't know where you live, but that's really not bad and it's worth it. You'll see.
