Season 1 may not be the most plot-heavy until near the end, but it does have a lot of fun standalone adventures. Much like TOH though, it ramps up in S2!

I loved how every episode seemed to pull back something established in season 1 in order to work towards building the army. Characters, events, and dynamics that seemed like one off filler nonsense now had plot relevance. Seeing Domino 2 and other characters again really made me feel rewarded for slogging through season 1. Also the double length penultimate episode and finale were both amazing and really topped off the show. It stuck the landing immaculately.

I loved this show since the first episode. It has the _Gravity Falls_ style of humor that really resonated with me. Even if something starts out "slow", it just means you're getting to know the characters, environment, etc, and learning about their predicaments before "fit" hits the "shan". That's what makes a show great. Character development should matter more than high stakes action 24/7. Maybe it's because I love slice-of-life kind of shows, but I much rather have that than a spectacle, and flat characters with little to no personality.

Same here. I've always preferred cartoons and slice of life anime over most shonen anime. Hell even story driven cartoons feel more character focused, and will more often than not show the characters living their lives together before any conflict starts in the episode, which makes it feel more real in my opinion. It's probably why I enjoyed amphibia sense the first episode aired. In fact I was more hyped for it than the owl house when the shows were first announced(I still love the owl house though.)

All I can say to people trying to watch Amphibia is this: If your one of those people that go “I only watch cartoons for the plot” and want faster pacing, then Amphibia isn’t for you. I watched Amphibia because I think it’s a fun adventure and slice of life like isekai show. With the occasional neat plot elements. Yeah the plot kicks in some more later on, but it still doesn’t shy away from the occasional fun one-off comedic episodes. Basically, don’t watch Amphibia just for the plot.

I rarely comment on videos, but I literally BEG you guys to keep going. Amphibia has a slower buildup compared to The Owl House, but it really does get better. Just like The Owl House, season 1 being more episodic feels like a quota they had to meet before they can start making the show more serialized, which is when it starts to get really good If you guys decide to skip the show, then fair enough, but you’d be missing out on what I believe to be one of the best cartoon shows in recent times (Also, Hop Pop best character)

This Show can be full of surprises, i hope you continue it. Season 1 focuses a little more on Character Introduction, Characterization and Character Development, basically it’s a pretty Character Focused Season. Season 2 focuses a little more on Plot while still have some Character Development and Focus here and there, a pretty Plot focused Season. While Season 3 is pretty much just trying wrap everything up as the Final Season, which has a focus on little bit of everything, Character Development, Plot and Lore, a pretty fun ride. Just give it a chance and you might not regret.

2:52 I dunno if anyone else thinks the same, but I feel like this kind of plot premise was coined by Futurama, as it seems to hit all the same bars as… Pretty much almost every single major Disney Channel/XD series since Gravity Falls; Main character(s) from the modern human world gets met with a deus ex machina that places them in a new miscellaneous environment for them, where soon after one episode of familiarizing themself with their new surroundings, they are eventually taken under the wing of a new found family (and maybe also get a job), usually more of the main supporting cast debuts one or two episodes later, there's a relative reveal at some point between late Season 1 and mid Season 2, and also there's an established big bad that's hinted at in the first season, only for it to be explored in further detail later on. Including Futurama, there's probably 7 different shows with that exact premise, I find.

This is true, and can be a bit tiring sometimes. I don't think all of these shows are necessarily bad because of this though. Actually, I think some of them are actually very good overall! I think it's what shows do with this certain trope is what determines whether it's "generic" or not. Gravity Falls, Amphibia, The Owl House, etc all have their fair share of similarities, but they have enough of a unique spin on things to be noticeably set apart from one another. I am very curious as to what the next big plot trope is gonna be for cartoons.

@@mkbthekid2041 The Owl House was so on the nose with the messages at first. None of them felt earned. Amphibia is just silly fun at first, but at least it's well-executed silly fun. Don't get me wrong. TOH is one of my all-time favorite shows. I kept watching because, even when it wasn't quite hitting the mark, I could see what they were going for and I could tell it had potential.

(Prefacing this by saying I love both shows) Imo Amphibia's first two episodes/4 sub-episodes are alright. If you just watched them you would have a lower opinion of the show overall, but they weren't really bad I'd say. TOH's first 2 episodes were kind of bad though imo. I usually skip over those ones.

I think it's a matter of the cast and crew not quite having the feel they were going for down yet. They were going for more of a Gravity Falls vibe, but they weren't quite pulling it off.

Before amphibia, I watched toh and i loved it. Then i heard about amphibia and i thought “a cartoon thats about a girl trapped in a world of FROGS? Thats just weird, im never gonna watch that 😂” but then, idk what happened, but a few weeks later i guess i just got curious what all the hype was and so i decided to watch the first few episodes. Next thing i know, I’m finished with the show and I’m absolutely in love with it.

Totally get that season one makes it harder to latch onto, but trust me when I say it's worth going through to the end. The first season is more about getting to know the characters and forming a connection + character development, but it really picks up in season 2

It's so sad to see so many people hating on Amphibia I know season 1 can be a little long but just saying it's purely filler is far from the truth. Yes there is some filler but most episodes really develop the characters and you see how far Anne or the Plantars are willing to go for one another overtime, but I'd say once you get to episode like 8-10 that's when it starts feeling a little less "filler"
