I think the new style is much more sustainable than a realism and the story can still be similar to the other movies.

I think it's also important to remember the point and purpose of Dreamworks as a whole- to be a big middle finger to Disney, stemming from Katzenberg's tenure at the company. That meant that most of their films (with a couple exceptions made purely for profit like Boss Baby and Trolls) had more of an edge, a touch of grit, and realism thrown in to contrast to the softer, younger aimed Disney movies. This allowed for genuine epics to be told, like HTTYD, KFP, and Prince of Egypt, as well as more raunchier stuff like Shrek and El Dorado. However, this contrasting approach has to change when Disney changes. When Disney animation stops being about good stories and wholesome messages, but devolves into endless sequels, ham-fisted pandering, terrible messages, and political grandstanding; then Dreamworks no longer has that original angle for a selling point. Ironically, with the Bad Guys, Puss in Boots the Last Wish, and hopefully Ruby Gillman; Dreamworks has been forced to step up and provide that fantasy and stylization, since Disney/Pixar won't anymore. As Disney/Pixar rots from within other studios like Dreamworks will rise to take their place. I just hope Dreamworks will maintain that edge and 'everyone appeal' factors that make their films better than DIsney/Pixar.

@@MesserMusic I honestly think it's epic. Enough of this highly realistic bullcrap. As awesome as hyperrealism is, at some point it does get a bit tiring. There's a gorgeous beauty in stylized looks that weirdos like you (respectfully in all honesty, we're all weirdos) can never understand. Which is honestly a shame, because people who put down stylized looks honestly miss a lot of epics stuff, shoving aside movies and games with amazing stories simply because they don't look realistic. Bull crap to the upteenth degree. If you have the time, you should defo branch out and see if you find any cool stylized movies that have epic stories you might like. Who knows, you might be pleasantly surprised.

Actually yeah, Kitty softpaws was declawed by someone that was supposed to be her parental figure. Declawing a cat is literally cutting off the first knuckle of their finger. Imagine somebody holding you down against your will and cutting off the first knuckle of every single one of your fingers and claiming it's for your own good. That's scary! Kitty softpaws was deformed and essentially became disabled, and at the hands of someone that was supposed to take care of her when she was little! Like it's genuinely horrifying.

I think it is implied that humpty survived at the end of the movie. He is literally shown in his golden egg cosplay hanging out with the mother goose in the clouds. It also makes more sense considering his character, since completely uprooting your plans and sacrificing yourself for the place you hated makes no sense. There also is the fact that the egg conveniently landed perfectly in the center of the pillar and was only seen after puss spends 25 seconds saving the golden goose from falling. I Respectfully think this movie is a masterpiece, the whole dynamic between puss and Humpty was so tragic, thier friendship had more depth than shrek and donkey. Puss in this movie as an outlaw was awesome and an absolute savage, in his first scene the he solos those people at the bar, and hits a cat with guitar. Humpty's sacrifice was a heart breaking scene, seeing puss holding back his tears was so touching, I mind you this was the first time we saw this cat who was comic relief in shrek movies show this kind of emotion. Who ever says "it doesn't hold up in 2023" should stop judging a kids movie from 2011.

It's a solid 7.5/10 flick at worse, not nearly as good as the sequel, but few animated movies are. I’m glad people like you feel so passionate about the first movie But I don’t think peoples opinions of Puss In Boots 1 being average is because of unfair comparisons I thought the first movie was kinda average BEFORE I first saw The Last Wish The first film’s pacing is clunky, the humour isn’t great and everything story wise isn’t very engaging or interesting (outside of Humpty and Puss’s dynamic). And I appreciate what they were going for with Humpty and Puss. It may have worked for you, but it didn’t work for me that well. I think the real problem is that The Last Wish is just so good; that it attracted movie goers (who aren’t as easily impressed as puss In boots 1 fans)

In fact, I remember back in the day, a lot of people claimed Puss 2011 was the best Shrek-franchise since Shrek 2 (aka it was better than Shrek 3&4). I do think it's a solid movie. Just because it's not a masterpiece, it doesn't mean it's bad. If The Last Wish is in the Dreamworks' Top 10, Puss 2011 is somewhere in the Top 20 for me. Which isn't too shabby, considering they made almost 50 animated movies at this point. Overall, the two Puss movies form an elegant duology, despite the vastly different art styles. 2011 shows us the "birth" of the legend and The Last Wish shows us the "death" of the legend.

I watched this movie twice about a month before the second one came out, after watching it the second time I figured they must've made Humpty's face look so much like a humans is so that you can tell what real people look like when they're lying, if you keep an eye on Humpty's face and pay attention to the way he talks you can already tell he's trying to manipulate Puss from the beginning because that's how people act in real life. Just pay close attention to humpty next time and y'all will see what I'm talking about. Pay attention to his facial expressions and the tone In his voice and you'll start to see it more and more. Look for this in people as well, getting good at recognizing these traits will help you find good honest friends in life instead of just people you know.
