This video discusses the differential diagnosis of posterior column and lateral column injury especially when this lesion affects both sides. Among these lesions are:
1. Subacute combined degeneration due to Vit B12 deficiency
-Bilateral loss of deep sensation (touch and proprioception)
- Bilateral upper motor neuron paralysis
2. Fredreich's ataxia
--Bilateral loss of deep sensation (touch and proprioception)
- Bilateral upper motor neuron paralysis
- Cerebellar symptoms such as intention tremors and slurred speech
3. Amylotrophic lateral sclerosis
- Bilateral Upper and lower motor neuron paralysis due to involvement of both corticospinal tracts and ventral horns
- No sensory loss
- No problems with vision or bowel (contrary to multiple sclerosis)
4. Tabes dorsalis (neurosyphylis).
- bilateral loss of touch and proprioception (posterior column injury)
- Injury of dorsal root and dorsal rooot ganglion.
