I have cervical and lumbar spinal stenosis. I've been in PT for 2 years, where I've had Red Cord therapy, cervical decompression on a traction table, and plenty of stretching and strength training. I do pilates twice a week, which has helped so much. I'll be 54 in 10 days, and I've never been stronger. Excercise and excellent physical therapy absolutely changed my life.

I have had spinal stenosis for 8 years and 7 years ago I could no longer walk or stand. I was in a wheelchair. My son did some research and discovered an inversion table might help me. I was willing to try anything. So I ordered one online and started going on it twice a day for 10 minutes at a time. After 3 months I no longer needed a wheelchair to get around. Now, I go on the inversion table once a week & all the pain is gone. I highly recommend getting a table if you have spinal stenosis. It will eliminate your pain for good as long as you keep going on the table at least once a week, once your pain has subsided.

My MRI revealed a congenitally tiny canal along with osteoarthritis in my lumbar spine. I wasn’t sedentary. I have been bedridden since Sept. ‘21 trying alternate approaches, but am about to give up and go for surgery. I just can’t take the pain, and have CRPS/RSD on top of it. No one will give me anything for pain, even though I’m a 63yo grandma without even one parking ticket.

Thank you for the information on spinal stenosis. I was thrown about 20 feet and fell on my back. My MRI showed that I have spinal stenosis. I was told I wasn't injured and now I am living with the pain. I went to a chiropractic doctor but was worried his method would make it worse. I wondered what to do but now I will go back to the chiropractic doctor.

I have severe congenital spinal stenosis with congenital neural Tube narrowing. I used to have pain. I have had this shots. Nothing worked well I have gone back to the gym. I do a lot of exercises to help me with the pain. The rowing machine has worked the best. I do not take and medication anymore. I know people that have had multiple surgeries and still in pain. Stretching and strengthening the abdominal muscles is of greatest help ever. I worked in a hospital nearly and or doctors office over 35 years. Sometimes people just want a doctor to wave a magic wand to make all their problems go away with any and all conditions. Yet they do not accept any responsibility for why the way they are. Especially diabetics and obesity and addictions. You have to work with your medical team. Listen to them. I am living proof that this works so well. You may need surgery. But you also need to follow their follow up instructions and that includes physical therapy. It works. The human body is miraculous when you treat it right.

Dr . MIKE, You reinforce much of the info out there. My question pertains to the decompression / traction therapy. I have spinal issues including stenosis and facet joint in the neck and lumbar spine. Also scoliosis and chronic pain and stiffness for many years. I have a 1 inch shorter right leg resulting from a fractured femur in 1966 at age 15. Im now 69. That single trauma has affected my well being to the Nth degree. The cricki g and cracking in my spine is almost unbelievable. I've been to at least 6 spinal and neuro surgeons all indicated No Surgery for the lumbar area, maybe only maybe a C4 to C7 ADF (?). The neck is solid like a rock, loss of the curve. Shoulder pain, tingling in my arms on and off , muscle cramping particularly in the calves. It really does SUK. In 2019, I started decomlression treatments for both cervical and lumbar with a Chiropractor in White Plains, NY. After 15 treatments or so (Cigna and others do not cover this , but will cover simple traction), i felt only minor relief. After one cervical session, driving home, felt a sudden "feeling" on the leftvside of my face into my ear. Then started to have major tinnitus in both ears worse in the left. Lasted steadiky for over 2 weeks. I do and did suffer with tinnitus as well as sinusitis for years. I stopped the sessions. Recently, found a chiropractor who has focused more on the Atlas and Axis verterbrea. That seems a bit more promising. My research recently on line uncovered info about the affects to the The Vagus Nerve . That 10 th cranial nerve is the driving force to the bodys functions .

But unfortunately I am a Chinese Singaporean living in Singapore, which is more than 20,000 miles from the US. In my situation, I am 81 years old and have been suffering from Spinal stenosis, which was discovered since April 2015. And last month March 2018, I was told that I required major surgery of the Cervical spine immediately failing which I may ended up a cripple. In my situation, I only suffer difficulty walking more than 200m, as I need to stop or sit down but not due to any pain as I am a gym practitioner 5 days a week. I just cannot stand up straight walking but bending down.

Hi @SpineCare Decompression and Chiropractic Center , Dr. Rowe Thank you for all your videos, I really enjoy them and use many of your exercises. I'm not sure if you will see this but if you do I was just wondering in your experience, when is it you recommend surgery for someone with cervical spinal stenosis? I understand that stenosis is common for many and for some people surgery is not necessary at all, but for some people it is. I am getting so much conflicting advice from medical professionals and I do not know who to trust. I want to avoid surgery at all cost, but I also know my symptoms have been getting much worse lately and on a recent MRI they say I have a herniated disk and Moderate to Severe Spinal Stenosis on my C5/C6 vertebrae. I am 28 years old and am a very active athlete in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. My main concern is I don't want to risk having surgery if it is unnecessary, and could possibly cause me more problems down the road, but I also do not want to risk putting it off too long and possibly becoming paralyzed/losing strength or dexterity. My chiropractor says he doesn't think I need it because I still have strength, although every time I cough my arms tingle/feel asleep/numb. I just don't want to put it off and eventually lose strength. My regular doctor says he doesn't think I am going to become paralyzed out of nowhere, but he does not see me getting better without surgery. I talk to a surgeon soon, and I am sure he is going to tell me I need surgery ASAP. I truly don't know the right answer. I respect my chiropractor and I understand and am thankful that he is trying to help me not be frightened or bullied into having surgery, but I also don't want to risk becoming permanently damaged, and I am tired of living in pain. Once again I don't know if you will see this, but if you do, I understand that all individuals cases are different, but overall, at what point do you see physical therapy/non surgical treatments no longer seem to be working and you would recommend one of your clients to seek surgical intervention? Thank you for your time, and sorry for the novel. I am just trying to get as much input as possible from as many professionals as possible.

Dr Rowe. My MRI shows I have spinal stenosis at L4-L5 and L5-S1. I also have moderate disc bulging at both toes levels. My symptoms are burning and throbbing pain from my right gluteus muscle down the lateral aspect of my right calf and down to my foot. It’s like a toothache that won’t go away. I also have tingling in my left calf but no pain. A local doctor want to do a ALIF and Decompression. I’m reluctant to do the ALIF (fusion ) but may consider the decompression. However, my symptoms are Agra aged by sitting down or laying down, as opposed to walking and having to lean over a grocery cart. Although my symptoms don’t match the classic sings of lumbar stenosis ( identified by MRI), should I approach my problem as someone who does have stenosis ?

Osteophytes are permanent. Traction helps open up the foraminal openings, which could make it less likely a bone spur will come into contact with a spinal nerve. This removal of pressure from the spinal discs will help keep the spaces open after treatment.

Also what do you think about those neck devices you can get on Amazon that can help you get your curve back? I guess you lay on it for a few minutes everyday. Do you think those are safe for people with mild spinal neck stenosis and no curvature left
@tamiwood9642

I bought one of those suggested by my Chiropractor..5 minutes at time. I lay in it flat.. doc says when curve comes back , stress is taken off the spine and relief..we shall l see. I have been diagnosed with severe cervical spine stenosis. I think it's from no movement during pandemic. A lot of people gained weight and didn't exercise 🙃

I've had spinal stenosis for over 20 years and my surgeon told me never to go near chiropractors they make things worse. They just want to take your money. I'm so lucky I live in the uk our NHS is amazing. Ive surgery due to cauda equina which can cause paralysis. I had intense physio Ive always stayed as mobile as possible there's no need for wheelchairs if you have decent medical care and good pain relief. I'm in pain 24/7 but I'm determined never to use a wheelchair Spinal stenosis can not be cured it just needs to be managed properly

If I had money I would do 2 things at once . Decompression therapy sessions lasting 2 hours in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber. Open the discs up and force oxygen and nutrients into the disc promoting healing and hopefully regain some height and relief of the nerve roots. Hopefully this treatment along with a custom nutrition plan could see people not have surgery.( Although surgery is a good thing if you suffer pain and other options are exausted) Hyperbaric oxygen + traction/decompression + time = great results? Tell me this would work.

@DrRowe
@DrRowe 6 жыл бұрын
I prefer low impact adjustments with patients that have been diagnosed with osteoporosis. The type I use is flexion-distraction, also called COX technique. It doesn't involved forceful manipulations of the back. Also, traction is very useful under these circumstances since it, likewise, doesn't involve a lot of force to the spine.

Glow glitter...I failed to mention Medicare paid for all but about $500.00 if I recall correctly because my wife was a senior citizen in the USA. She was semi-paralyzed before the surgery. She was able to recover mostly from the surgery. It was a slow recovery. What started the problem is she picked up a heavy water melon. I learned most everyone gets stenosis and bone spurs in some form as we get older. There are some great KZbin videos on this. Also look up non-surgical “spinal decompression”. God Bless You
