Thank you, Garrett! I just setup my machine to be able to control the spindle through the controller but had to manually enter the dwell command. This will prevent an old brain from forgetting to do that.

Great video, Garrett. I upgraded to Version 12 this week. This is what I found in the file when I opened post-processor commands. "M3[S]" "M0(MSG, Click 'Continue' when the spindle is up to speed)". Original series: Onefinity Woodworker. I'm in the process of installing the PWNCNC plug-and-play in the spindle system.

Nice video and very useful. It should also be noted that all VFD will have a command that defines how quickly the spindle accelerates (spins up). You could use that command to shorten the dwell time.

Another advantage to having a spindle, if you have the PWM setup, is you can control the speed through the gcode. So if you have the database, it will set the speed automatically and not have to worry about turning it down on the router. Now I have my trim router connected with a solid state relay to turn on with the M3 command.
@IDCWoodcraft10 ай бұрын
tomswoodwork, very true my friend. Having direct control like that is definitely a game changer.

Thank you! I love as you learn things, you are so excited to pass that knowledge down to us. My Avid CNC is in milli-secs, so I had to Pause/Dwell for P5000. I quick reference showed X5 was for seconds, but that did not work for me, so I will stay with milli-secs. This video also showed me how to automatically start my dust collection by adding an M7 before the spindle start and dwell. This also gives the dust collection time to get up to speed. The other outlet is controlled by M8 so I could connect something else like a light. There was an M9 already at the end of the G-code to turn the outlets off. Note this does not replace the initial spindle warmup cycle, which I personally need to be more vigilant about doing.

When I bought my router, it came with Vectric V Carve Pro. When I started the program it moved instantly. Then when I upgraded to Vectric Aspire, when I started the program, I noticed there was a pause of several seconds.before the axes moved. Didn't know why, didn't care. it worked fine. Giving the spindle time to get up to speed seems like the most sensible reason.

I've gotta say....Your videos are spot on great topics for CNC'rs. I've got a new Legacy 3x5 Gen 3 Pro......I absolutely hate it when the bit hits the wood before the spindle is up to speed. I've been adding the G-code manually to the file.....and sometime I forget. I had no idea I could make this happen within Vectric. Just for your spot on video....next time I need a bit....I'm gonna pay you back with an IBC purchase!

This is a very nice video and good information. One thing to note is that I am using Mach4 with the Ethernet Smoothstepper. For this setup the G04P command needs to be in milliseconds rather than in seconds. For me the "P5" would have to be input as "P5000".
@IDCWoodcraft10 ай бұрын
me-qg2mt, good point brother! Glad to hear you sorted it out with your ethernet smoothstepper too.
@rosslawrence4628Ай бұрын
I noticed that too. G04P is milliseconds. G04S is seconds. So G04S5 would be 5 seconds, but so is G04P5000. :)

Thanks, Garrett I have a spindle and I need to do this. I thought I saw in the Vectric setup that there was a place to set a dwell without modifying the g code. Also how did you get the software to start the spindle? Did you wire the old spindle wires into the VFD?

Cool. I have to ask about 2 specific longmill (actually scienci) features in gsender. They have a delay after spindle on setting in setup and they allow inserting gcode before every job. I get that doing it in vectric probably touches more followers, but wouldn’t doing it in gsender make my past jobs adopt the delay also? Any idea what the pause value is in the gsender pause feature? I read documentation and can’t find it, I know I can copy your gcode settings for the run before method.

Hi Garrett, trying to add dwell to post processor. I can’t find the note pad link when I follow you instructions. What am I doing wrong? Thanks
@IDCWoodcraft4 ай бұрын
TomDuszynski, when you open up a gCode file that you are looking to cut, you need to input the dwell command (G04), followed by "P" and a numerical value without a decimal point, specifies the pause length in seconds. What the dwell command line should look like → G04P5 This command will pause the CNC router for 5 seconds
@danneil780610 ай бұрын
So is the post processor is in each file that is used on the longmill? In other words, all of the files generated from Aspire and used with the Makita will need to be updated?
@IDCWoodcraft10 ай бұрын
Hi Dan great question. Yes, All old programs that ran with the Makita will have to be re written with the dwell command
@kevinpage273010 ай бұрын

What if you're using a diamond drag bit which doesn't need the spindle to start turning? Does setting the speed on that bit in the database to 0 prevent the spindle from turning? And will that dwell command still be in there, actually being useless in such a case?
