Lopez opens up dynamics in songs that no other drummer can touch. He is a special drummer and any band with him behind them feels it. It's good to hear you again my friend. You are a special talent. Opeth, Amon, Soen... I don't mind; as long as your behind the kit. Cheers.

musicians got basis to make their music. And in this case is obviously a fucking copy cat because they use the same metrics and sincope with silences that made tool original. also the bass performance with leading and funk style. Its more more obvios when the singer sing th same way of voice line. non talented bands can lie to the audience but not to other muscicians . Its awful and sad to people steal others talent an make money with ignorant fans

Just hearing this band because of Martin Lopez, to be honest. This guy will fade without being recognized in music as he should. I mean, of course he will remembered for his work in Opeth, but i feel its not enough. Guy got mad skills, a lot of groove. After opeth he just disappeared.

Admittedly, I am an Opeth fan of 20+ years and Soen only 1 year because I never searched them out and they probably have gone a bit under the radar. But damn, looking at the albums that Lopez had a direct hand in - it's literally the best/classic Opeth years and then everything with Soen, who I gotta say I'm loving more and more as they're a unique blend two of my all time metal favourites... Tool and the great Swedish masters Opeth. Thank you Mr Lopez for your contribution to music. I now realise you didn't disappear, you were just waiting to be found again.

Maynardj NP! More people need to listen to Leprous. Their first album (Tall Poppy Syndrome) has a tiny hint of progressive death metal , but still retain the impressive blends of prog metal, prog rock and avant-garde metal, which made them Leprous in the first place. My personal favourite album from them is Bilateral.

Missed him and was worried he'd never come back to music so you can imagine how stoked I was when I found Soen with Martin Lopez killing it on the drums again. One of the best drummers of all-time IMHO and Soen wearing some similarity on their sleeves, they still have their own voice, writing some amazing songs, if it's good music and you like it, that's all that matters.

Those are two distinctly separate questions, and so I will go about answering them individually. Firstly, do metal bands write their own lyrics? Yes. Certainly some band might have a lyricist, (such as was the case king crimson on their debut) or may derive his lyrics from source material , but to be brief, most metal bands compose their own lyrics.Now for the latter question: Do they write their own music? Yes. Unequivocally. Clear enough?

Excellent cymbal work which is a point for creativity (9). He's not really one for double bass per such, but he is no stranger to going from full-leg to ankle-motion in a matter of seconds, so a manner of double bass technique from what I saw, although not much hand technique. Sure he uses double strokes to get off quick tremolo-type beats, but that's no major cry for technical drumming (4). Gearge Kollias took the Swivel-Techique to a whole new level, which IS infact a technique
@blppt9 күн бұрын
The funny thing is, in the decade since you wrote that comment, Lopez' Soen playing has been far more dependent on double bass patterns. Also, Oscillation on this same album is very, very double bass heavy.

You speak of mental states. Yet in a sense all musicians create synthetic states of mind in which the narrative- or inspiration flows forth from an espousal of their creativity. What you see, or rather- hear- here is a connection with the tool mindset. From that point they emerge with their own individual muse's to create they're proper soudscape which would define Soen as a band, and I might add one far different from tool.
