A big thank you for this! I was able to fix my old 2007 E35. Sadly, the flywheel did not have a lifetime warranty back in those days, but I was able to fix it by replacing the broken metal wire with bicycle cable and solder. Works like a charm, and saved me hundreds of dollars of repair. That been said, my E35 worked like a charm for 10 years before having this problem. Great machine!

Hi, would you be able to share where exactly you solder the bike cable? Did you have to do it to both sides of the flywheel? Thank you
@FrancoisMonetteMTL Жыл бұрын
@@hambone4691 It's been 6 years, so my recollection is limited. If I remember correctly, I used solder solely to increase the size of the bicycle end cap, which was smaller then required, so that is fitted snugly in the contraption made for it.

Thank you for the video! I have a 2014 model and the main "bicycle cable" broke near the flywheel. Unfortunately it was 2 months outside the warranty for that, but $20 later, I replaced the main cable without removing the flywheel. Working great and my other half is happy!

Thanks for the video. Got the same exact issue as you on E35 model. I was suspecting something like what you described, but this was so very helpful. Gave you a sub just for this video.

Wow- thanks for taking the time to document all that! My 2014 E25 doesn't have that issue (yet), but now I understand better how the brake assembly works. The BlogSpot link you posted when responding to another comment is FANTASTIC-- great tech info that isn't commonly found. It might be helpful to place it in the video description or (more work) the video itself. On a related note- my E25 uses a single roller/track under each pedal instead of dual tracks. This was a change in design for the 2014 model and I would NOT recommend any of the elliptical models using a "single track" system to a potential buyer because they are too unstable. The unsteady feel affects your workout because you're constantly correcting your balance and form to maintain the exact position necessary for a smooth rolling motion. Still worse, there are complaints from users about the pedal (usually left) roller sliding off the track and causing damage-- including me. I tense up whenever I feel that pedal even slightly off centre now. It's a great machine and I've learned to live with it for now, but I wish I had not picked one of the few Sole models to try the single track setup. You can do some things to work around the issue, but there's no real "fix" for the fundamental design flaw. Sole returned the E25 to the dual track deign the following model year. So, I'd advise anyone considering an E25 to avoid the 2014 model for that reason. Hope all that saves someone from the frustration I've encountered with mine. Thanks again for the video!

M. Brooks, this is THE video that is the closest to what I was looking for, THANK YOU for sharing! I just missed the part on how to dislodge the break&magnets assembly wheel from the actual metal flywheel. I can't figure out how to force-separate the two components (hammer through? special tool or extractor? simple screwdriver insertion?). Can you point me to some hint, or video you may have on this specific matter?
@spinktec3 жыл бұрын
it's been a while since I've had this apart so I re-watched my video to jog my memory. I'm 99% sure that once the flywheel is removed and on sitting on the repair table it is only being held in my magnetic force. You can see in the video my reluctance to allowing the brake to go back into the flywheel, that's because it's difficult to get out (as you know). Again from memory there's not much meat on the plastic brake to pry on, but you should be able to get it out with the knowledge it's only held in with the magnets and with some creativity and finesse.

Thanks so much for this amazing video and explanation. I think we have the same thing going on here. Where did you buy your replacement parts? I know you mentioned that it was still under warranty, so I’m wondering if they sent it to you?
@davidbrooks33354 жыл бұрын
I ordered the parts directly from Sole support (phone number is shown in video). They sell parts and provide warranty parts. When you call they'll determine if your unit is under warranty and if not, help you find what you need.

Thanks for this. I have a nordictrack gx2.7 exercise bike that is stuck on the lowest resistance. I took it apart and it looks like the tension motor may be the problem. The tension motor only moves in one direction no matter if you're lowering the resistance or raising the resistance. I was wondering if you can confirm this for me. I'm not sure how it is supposed to work now that I know it involves magnets. Thanks.

I have a E20 sole elliptical few months ago a. Code shows up E2 motor error and I notice resistance don't work anymore any idea how to fix the problem ?
@yeahyeah54227 жыл бұрын
What do you make of a burning smell upon incline? Customer service said the incline control module. I took off the shrouds to try and locate where the smell was coming from. I plugged it in and now I get an incline error. I tried resetting and it moved the incline all the way up and gave another incline error message. It smells like it's coming from the brake actuator though

Thanks for the video. On my Sole E25 the cable had jumped off the resistance motor pulley. As a result the resistance was stuck at high. After I mounted the cable back on the pulley, it seems like the resistance is still too high at the lower levels. In fact, the resistance does seem to change as I go from level 1 to almost level 8 or so. The resistance does go up as I increase the level beyond 8 or so. Could it be because the cable needs more tension? Is there a way to adjust the cable tension in E25? Any pointers will be appreciated. Thanks.

Do you mean to say: “the resistance DOES NOT change much from1 to 8?”

I just got a brand new Sole E35. When I use it, even at the lowest resistance (1), it seems very hard to pedal (too much resistance, compared to what I was used to at the gym). I like my elliptical to have NO resistance (all the time). Is there any way a person can mess with the construction of an elliptical to literally create a "no resistance" feel all of the time? (If not, is there anything I can try to make it feel like less resistance than it is?)
@davidbrooks33354 жыл бұрын
It sounds like you're asking for a way to rig it to not have resistance without repairing the existing issue. You can see in the video that the eddy current brake can be removed from the flywheel. If I remember correctly the brake is needed as a spacer for the flywheel so it has to be installed, but you should be able to remove the two magnets from the brake (probably destructively to the brake). Once the magnets are removed, reinstall the brake into the flywheel and reassemble. Without the magnets, there will be no resistance.

How long did it take you to replace the resistance motor?
@BobL2 жыл бұрын
@@davidbrooks3335 mine took between 38 and 45 minutes. I watched several videos and the biggest issue I had was making sure I had the right tools... then I discovered I had neglected to take out a few screws at the bottom on the right side. Nevertheless if I said it took me an hour that would be a stretch if I said it took 38 minutes that would probably be the "exact time" I spent working on the screws and the replacement but in fact because I watched the video a couple of times and I diddled and dabbled, I'll say 47.5 minutes :-) Now I can market myself as an expert gear motor replacement person for the e35 elliptical. The preparation and fear of making a mistake took me a lot longer than the actual replacement and undoing and redoing of the screws.
@spinktec2 жыл бұрын
It took about an hour all together. 10 to 15 min to get through the plastic covers (including removing the footpads and handlebars from the wheel). 30 min to get the flywheel in and out. 15 min to get the plastic and everything else back on

I just replaced the motor and that was the problem. Functionally, They're all about the same. Getting to it was a pain but the actual motor is easy to install. One thing, when you connect the wire which adjust the tension to the motor put it in straight alignment...when you turn on the machine adjust the tension.

Do you still recommend this product to peoples ? I was going to buy E 25 after my proform elliptical axle had broken after 5 years but machine 7 years old everyday got used 30 minutes to 1 hour.
@spinktec7 жыл бұрын
I think it's a good product from a reliability and maintainability standpoint (BTW, I am a certified reliability engineer). I give it credit because there exists OEM parts and warranty support as well as the fact that the product is reliable in the environment at the duty cycle that it was designed for (in home use; I wouldn't recommend it for fitness center duty). From an operations standpoint everything continues to work as advertised, the heart monitor , display, bearings, or joints have never failed. I'm due to replace the rollers due to wear, which is occurring more on the right than left, but I attribute that to something I'm doing as the rider (uneven running gate maybe). For comparison the duty cycle my E25 is exposed to is approximately 130 minutes per week total.

I have the problem that is detailed in the video. I have removed the flywheel, but cannot see a way to get inside the flywheel to address the disconnected cables. It is already disassembled in the video. Can anyone tell me if this is something I can do? If it's just a dislocated cable, seems ridiculous to spend over $100 on a whole new unit. Help?
@hollyg68366 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your helpful reply. Just had a guy out to look at it today: he will have to replace the flywheel altogether in order to fix it. One of the cables was snapped, and there really isn't any way to access the assembly in order to just replace it. Soooo, it will be 130.00 for the part, plus installation of 95.00. But it's been a great machine and certainly much less than a new comparable machine, so we went ahead and ordered the part. (It's out of warranty.)

If I remember correctly the brake assembly is held into the flywheel with same nuts that hold the entire flywheel assembly in the bike. So if you have it on a table you should be able to pull the brake assembly out of the flywheel assembly using a small prying tool (flathead screwdriver. You'll by prying mostly against the force of the magnets holding the brake assembly in the flywheel so just work your way around the circumference of the brake assembly a little bit at a time.Let us know if you are able to affect a repair on those small cables, its seems unlikely to me that you'll find anything repairable in there. I expect you'll find one or two broken cables which would require new ones to be built and installed as part of the assembly
