Thank you for this update. I hope you have continued success with the Fiat.

About a month ago, I had a run-in with a kamikaze raccoon. It shot full-tilt from the brush along the roadside and caught me almost dead-center in the grille. So, bumper cover, grille, radiator, and condenser all damaged. I elected to have it towed to a local dealer body shop because I didn't want refilling of the coolant loop to be done improperly. They were able to get my Bolt back to me inside of a month, despite having to wait on the grille(apparently one of *those* parts not in abundance). Otherwise, no muss, no fuss, claim handled quickly, and it looks and drives just as it did before. I did have one coworker talk about how it might get totaled. Yes, the FUD is real.

Thankfully it wasn’t the Live Wire for sure. In 2003 at 37 years old a lady pulled out in front of me on my motorcycle and I never walked again. They amputated my leg and because my hip is smashed a prosthetic is not a great option. At least I survived plus it has a few good points such as nobody ever ask me to help them move anymore haha. Plus no matter how hateful I am nobody’s gonna beat me up. You simply don’t beat up a one legged man, even if he deserves it.

My Bolt EV's one-pedal driving gave be a bad habit: In taiking a right turn against the light I would stop, then take my foot off the brake as I waited for the traffic to clear. Result: the driver approaching from behind didn't see brake lights (though the accident was still 100% their fault). Now I always remind myself to keep my foot on the brake until I want to start moving. #DefensiveDriving The cost to repair the minor bumper and sensor damage on the 2020 Bolt was $1,600. Pretty normal really.

1 pedal puts brake lights on when you're stopped, I can see the light in the rear window (2023)

@BradfordNeedham possibly. One possible reason could also be that the brake lights, with the exception of the third light in the center, are down in the bumper, not where some drivers may expect them to be. Since the Bolt EV’s rear hatch lifts with the taillights, the brake lights had to be put in a fixed location. My guess is that the other driver just didn’t see them. One way you can test it is to have someone follow you and let you know if the brake lights come on with one pedal. Maybe even have them on a speaker phone to communicate. The brake lights are supposed to activate.

Fiat 500e was the best for collisions, there's a million Fiats that share body parts. Liberty Mutual has given us comparable prices for RVs

Our 2016 Leaf was rear ended, definitely more damage then you have there. Mechanically the car was fine, it was all bumper and hatchback. They totaled our car. I'm super glad you had a better experience.

I’m sorry to hear that yours was totaled.

I'm certainly glad you ended up getting the car fixed and paid for, but I will never understand why some make getting a car repaired when someone else was at fault so complicated. First I NEVER EVER contact the at fault person's insurance company. Why, because you aren't their customer and they really don't want to talk with you. I always contact my insurance company and work when them to get the car into a repair facility of my choosing quickly and get it fixed. I will be responsible or my deductible and my insurance company handles all of the negotiations with the other company. When they get everything settled I get my deductible back. Easy for me and costs me nothing other tha potentially having my deductible amount tied up for a period. And my car is typically fixed much faster since my company authorized repair immediately.
