Did anyone else notice the Hertz Teslas had much higher mileage than the other Evs Hertz was selling? A 2022 with 55K miles does not sound like a car nobody wanted to rent.

No one said they didn’t want to be rented. The high cost of accidents and major down time to get them fixed was a major factor for Hertz ditching them.

Nice video! 2 yrs ago, I purchased a RWD 2018 long range 3 with 48k miles and it was the best, most reliable car I ever owned. I personally added a 100k miles on it in a year and a half. I only put 2 sets of tires and one 12 volt battery for only $100 which Tesla sent a tech out to my house an hour away from the Tesla store. Never had any issues. Even with only 148k mies it still charged to full at 98% (297 miles). We travels to Colorado 4 times and North Carolina twice and several trips to the gulf coast. Tesla has their charging net work set up to basically go anywhere. Traded it in for a 2023 bolt with 4k miles for only 19k. Love the efficiency of the bolt and less phantom drain. Going to be challenging on travels though. But I will say the Tesla has more phantom drain than the bolt does. My wife also has a model S and it would lose 10 miles over night in cold weather and sometimes even more.

As a former Uber-Hertz Tesla renter, I put about 100K miles on these cars and they kept on going, i babied the hell out of them. I'm really annoyed so many of the other drivers best these things up do badly, but I'm glad some of them are surviving into other hands. I started up my own Turo fleet of Teslas just recently, and even got myself an S Plaid and Cyberbeast. Will never drive any othdr brand at this point.

I bought a 2022 Model 3 RWD from a car dealer in the Phoenix Metro area. Here are some points: 1. My car had 77,318 when I bought it. 2. Tesla has given me a month of FSD, and frankly, I don't like it that much, it is really buggy. I probably wouldn't use it much even if it were free. It does work at times, but at night it really has problems. 3. I live in AZ, and it's temperatures are reaching nearly 100 degrees F. That has caused me to lose 40% - 50% of my range because the car's heat pump is constantly cooling the battery. My neighbor has a 2024 RWD Model Y and he is experiencing the same drop in range - so it is a common problem with all Teslas when the temperature gets over 86 degrees F. 4. I use Sentry Mode away from home. I have not experienced that much phantom drain. 5. I also have cabin cooling set at 95 degrees to cool the interior. I try not to leave it in the sun too much. 6. Recurrent stated that my range for the care is 95% of the 272, which is 258 miles. I have had it charge on a Tesla supercharger up to 264. At home on my Level 2 Tesla charger, it charges to 254. But keep in mind that I have 19" wheels on my Model 3. That lowers the range by about 10 miles from 18" wheels. I think that if I got 18" wheels, I would probably be very close to the 272 mile brand new range. 7. Though it is hard to pin down, I think my actual loss of battery range capacity is around 3%. But I would have to do an actual analysis of the battery to confirm that. Recurrent states that the battery capacity is at 95%. Either way, I haven't lost much range. 8. It charges from 30% - 80% on a Tesla supercharger in less than 20 minutes. It goes from 30% -95% in about 30 minutes. My Tesla Level 2 Universal Wall connector charges the car at 8 KW per hour. I have a 62.3 KW battery, so it charge from 0% -100% in about 7.5 hours. 9. When it was cooler here in AZ I was getting over 225 miles of range, and that is not driving slow, or trying to get the best mileage. I would guess that if I drove it at the speed limit when it is cool outside, I would get close to 260 miles of range, maybe more. 10. Luckily, my car had no damage on it except for the rims. The rims had been repaired and the repair paint was peeling. I spoke to the dealer and he did provide $250.00 to me towards the repair of the rims. Oddly, even with this glaring defect, the rims still look very good. I have not decided whether I will repair these rims or buy new aftermarket 18" rims. 11. The tires appear to be nearly brand new. Again, I got lucky. 12. The paint is in very good shape, and I have no dings, luckily. 13. I do have a slight (quiet) creaking noise in the front of the cabin, and I am not sure where it is coming from. It sounds like it is either the plastic dash mount or around the steering wheel. It is barely noticeable, and so I am not too concerned about it. Other than that, everything in the cabin looks brand new, including the carpet. 14. I have the LFP battery, the matrix headlights and the advanced FSD computer. 15. The acceleration is amazing. I suspect the 0 -60 mph is much faster than the 5.8-second spec. 16. I DO like the self-parking feature of the FSD. I will miss that when my free trial is over.

Been using the FSD trial in my 2023 Model 3 Tessie. Very much improved. I tested it for 4 hours yesterday. A few mistakes when first testing it (may have been me not the car!) but after an hour or so it was virtually perfect driving around town, just a glitch or two driving in my neighborhood. Love the "auto max speed" option. On Interstate 95, in moderate Saturday traffic, it was perfect, merging on and off the highway, keeping up with traffic, etc. In four hours of driving, zero phantom braking (I really hope they have fixed this, scares my wife so I don't even use autopilot when she is with me). When I left my son's house, I could have gone to sleep and arrived at my home about 30 minutes away in the same town (all city driving) if I did not have to hold on to the steering wheel. Will probably buy it for a month when I go on road trips this coming summer. I agree with what he says about the M3 holding the road. The M3 is really stuck to the road corners well, etc.
@kyleb8117
@kyleb8117 7 ай бұрын
I like the auto-max but I also don't like it. I wish there were an easy way to override it and tell it to slow down (like...the scroll wheel!?). There are places here where I'd be worried about a ticket but it's generally fine with how it speeds. I've been eyeing the "S3XY Buttons" accessory and I wonder if it has one for toggling the automatic speed set on/off. Also would love one for toggling the "minimal lane changes" option. (I hate that I have to set it every time) I like your point about buying it for a month for road-tripping. That's clever.

Just to let you know, cabin overheat protection uses a lot more energy that you might think if you're live in a hot region. I've found that's way more draining than sentry mode or anything else. Especially on the standard range model with the smaller battery. Dog Mode, however, is great for those with pets and well worth it.

I almost went for Hertz but the only one I could find for at/under $25k (M3LR) was across the nation from me. It'd be a fun road trip but realistically couldn't happen. I like seeing your attitude on dings and dents and normal wear, and I fully agree. My Leaf before this had a huge ding in the back panel but it was really just cosmetic and I didn't care. Some people get too worked up over their cars. The difference between basic Autopilot and EAP/FSD is why I went with my car. (I test-drove a '21 and was really disappointed with Autopilot disengaging on lane changes, for instance.) My car has FSD and I got it cheap. It's a 2019, so I'm missing out on some stuff but honestly, none of it is a deal-breaker (and things like chrome-delete and power trunk can be modded in...though I love chrome on my white car). The heat pump and heated steering are what I'd want the most...but, honestly? I think I'd rather have warm wheel covers and lose a bit of efficiency if it means I have navigate-on-autopilot and all that goodness including on city streets with FSD. Is it perfect? Nah. Of course not. However, it's generally pretty impressive. I also have a lot of foot pain so being able to stretch my feet while the car drives and I watch carefully around me is massive. I just don't let it drive in stressful situations (e.g. unprotected left turns). If I bought a new car (I was looking at '22 M3LR's), I think I would've eventually caved and bought EAP or paid for a subscription to FSD even though both are insanely expensive. Glad I avoided that financial trap.

Luckily with used EVs, there's a lot less that could go wrong/be abused with it, vs a gas car- there have to worry re missed oil/fluid & other key services, transmission abuse, overheating, etc... plus all the moving/critical parts that can wear out (belts, pumps, etc)... EVs, simply, don't have any of that! While bad drivers might drive it hard and maybe damage suspension (as w/ any used/rental car), maybe worse they do is poorly treat battery? But Hertz and many others have RecurrentAuto battery health/degradation reports (sometimes can look up VIN if they don't give you report), and also Teslas have hidden Service Mode w/ onboard diagnostics showing recent error messages and faults (easier than digging out OBD2 reader)... the battery warranty should still last long time unless you drive a LOT like the @spinnerEV does... the BMS system should mostly protect the battery, unless someone left it at 0% for a long time? Most RWD/rentals are LFP batteries which are more resilient and can handle 100% charging better, and last longer.

you will never get rid of the wind noise. for one, the frameless windows on the doors do not help, adjustments to the window regulator can be made, however still will not make it perfect. however the highland model is superior inside, you hear nothing. id love to know exactly what they did and see if its adaptable to the 2022-2023 models. the EPA estimates are based off of getting mile for mile range is based off of using 255whpm. the only way you are getting 255whpm is with AC off, or on very low and temp above 65, and no deviation in altitude (hills). if you see 100% charge saying 258 miles you will prob see 240 miles on a range test.

Totally agree with your take on FSD vs basic auto. At $12k, or even $200/month, it's party tricks I have no need or desire for. I like driving so I'd rather do it myself, thank you very much. Basic auto to take the stress off stop-n-go and relieve the tedium of long highway cruise stretches is all I need or want. When I purchase my Model 3 this year I'll give the free month of FSD a whirl, but at $12k I won't be purchasing it. There's an even more fundamental issue with the $12k. If the fundamental purpose of FSD is to produce cars that are "better than human" (as opposed to just enabling robo-taxis), then the only ethical course of action is to make it standard equipment, included in the base price, in every vehicle Tesla sells.

My hertz purchase took a day or two before the "renter QR code" phone app access disappeared (that was very handy meantime!), but... next day still didn't come over to my account... we had a roadtrip planned, so I went and added the car to my account via the app, uploading my documentation, and.. in 5minutes, car was in my account, I could supercharger again, etc (THAT was the scary part more than phone app access!) Very slick. Dunno how long would have taken if I had waited for Hertz/Tesla to finish on their end :) I kept the keycard at all times just in case... but other thing I love, once in acct, you can add OTHER phones and keycards for the car- I already had 3 cards from my old Tesla, I just added the same ones as keys to new car, voila! Extra keys at NO cost.

It's neat, but.. in practice? How useful? You can crack the windows remotely in the app, and do just fan protection (not AC) which saves some battery, but... car will still get hot, esp. in the sun. Much easier to let it get hot (put in windowshades/park out of sun!), and use app to pre-cool the car a few minutes before you get in... very nice. It's handy though to use "Keep climate on" if I have something in car I don't want to get too hot, for quick errand /stop at another store...

One on the lot had an OBVIOUSLY repaired/repainted 2 doors, the door handle had lots of paint overspray in it, they said had no accident history, but was obvious. I checked under every car to see if any damage to battery case, and went into hidden Service Mode to check for any alerts/error messages... several of them had some transient errors, probably not biggies (especially if you find some under 50k miles w/ tesla warranty), but I picked one w/ the fewest alerts, and least-swirled paint. @khwang89466

It would depend on what charge you arrive at a super charger. Usually you type your route into the navigation and the car will plot charging stations along your route. You can change the stops in the car if you want to stop earlier or later based on convenience. Otherwise the car will generally try to get you to a charging station where you have pretty low charge (3-15%). The reason for this being that the lower the charge, the faster it charges. When I’ve gotten to a charger with such low charge, it will take about 10 minutes to get to about 60%. Whenever I stop I usually use the restroom and maybe grab some water and it takes 15-20 minutes. Usually it’ll get me back up to 70-75% within that 15-20 minutes. If I want closer to 80 I usually stay another 5-10 minutes and I’ll just watch a show on the screen or play games on my phone. Overall stop times for me have been around 15-30 minutes. Another thing is that the car will generally make you stop an extra stop so that it stays on the lower end so that your stops are shorter due to the faster charging rates at those lower charges. I also had huge doubts doing road trips with the car but I was surprised at how painless it was. Granted I live in California so there is an abundance of stations. Overall most of my charging is done at home and I don’t do THAT many road trips per year. So the extra time it takes compared to filling up a car has been a non-issue and because I don’t really sit at gas stations on my day to day driving, I’m sure I’ve more than made up for my time on the road trips.

I cant get past the fact that these cars are accessed by others over the air. It could be shutdown at anytime and its a boat anchor then. Wait around and wait around for all this transfer crap. Not for me

WARNING.. you more then likey will be buying a used TAXI 😮 Most of these Teslas were rented by Ride Share services. Most drivers "Never Bothered to Maintain" as though they were their own car. Expect to find dents, scratches paint Swirls and imperfections on every panel. Oh Yes.. they treated these Teslas like a rental.😂 If you're in an accident more than likely your Tesla will be totaled, thanks to astronomical repair cost. As most Independent repair shops will not have equipment needed to repair these Teslas. If you're the kind of person who updates your phone annually, this is a perfect piece of crap for you. Disposable phone's meet disposable cars.
