I still remember The Spinners making an appearance at Alexander Hamilton elementary school #145 way back in the early 60s. They sang this song and drove the sisters wild when they tossed some of their promotional photos from the stage. That’s what I’m talking about! PWG.

Two of the best lead singers ever were George Smith of the Manhattans and Bobby Smith of the Spinners. They had unusual voices that you couldn't immitate.

If you are in the UK, it was first released on a British Columbia label under the group's name "The Spinners", but the label didn't want to use it, because it belongs to a folk group, but they added the name "Detroit" and calling it the "Detroit Spinners". That is why this name got confused with the UK folk group, but the Spinners is an R&B group from the US, the Spinners is also a folk group in the UK.

Always loved this song and both the early and later Spinners. Saw them live back in 1966 and they stole the show. I've always wondered about their group name. Did Spinners refer to spinning records or to those special "spinner" hubcaps you could get from Detroit? Anyway, just an outstanding, unique sound.
@bmuhamad6 жыл бұрын
According to the "Unsung" show, it was the hubcaps...
