Spinning for Yellowtail Kingfish land based in Sydney - Bugsy Fishing Episode 36 - 4K

In Episode 36 Bugsy takes us down to a local ledge in Sydney spinning garfish for the mighty Yellowtail Kingfish ( seriola lalandi) as it is known in Australia, Hiramasa in Japan and Yellowtail in the USA. Rock fishing for this species is always a challenge. Fickle on the bite, hard fighting and always trying to bury you in the rocks. Justin continues to have success on his homemade lures which just keep getting better and better. Rock fishing is dangerous and requires a high level of experience and knowledge of the ocean. Stay safe on the ledge. Always wear a lifejacket, suitable apparel and shoes. Fish with friends and look out for each other. Only fish when conditions are safest. Enjoy the vid!

Thank you. If you put enough pressure on the fish early in the fight you can lead it towards you by turning its head in the direction you want it to swim. If you leave it too late then the fish will turn and swim the way it wants to. It can be the difference between a short or long fight, and may even lose you a fish

I hooked up to my 1st King on the Central Coast last month, and was surprised how hard it pulled...seemed to be diving down towards a reef or something for 5 to 10 seconds, then it turned around and I thought it had given up the fight really early. It was basically swimming straight at me and then dove right under the ledge I was standing on and snagged me. Never had a fish ever do anything like that. So smart, I couldn't believe it. Thanks for the tip, that makes a lot more sense now, thinking back to that one I lost

Is it better to fish at the low or high tide off the rocks

Depends on the spot. As a rule of thumb, I like low tide for the deeper ledges and high tide for the shallower ones. But really depends on the location

Hi Bugsy, love your content mate. Would it be possible to make a tutorial on how to kill/gut a fish as best as possible and how to tie lures? I know it may be hard due to youtube guidelines but I always seem to be throwing fish back because i dont know to kill a fish without causing it pain. Cheers
