Very entertaining .... Reminds me of my own spinning journey.For the first few months I could produce nothing but bulky yarn from my plyed singles. Eventually got the hang of spinning a consistently thin single. Time and practice, practice and time. Much luck in your adventures! 😉

Eek! I saw the video you made on spinning with a drop spindle and remember hoping you’d stick with spinning. Little did I know you’d take the leap of buying a spinning wheel and oh, what a beauty it is! And I’m so freaking happy for you! Mine is an e-spinner because I couldn’t treadle for long enough due to health issues. It’s such fun to learn a new skill, to see yourself getting better at it, and to finally use the yarn for knitting or crocheting. You’re probably going to find that homespun yarn is incomparable to commercial yarn. You can customise it. You can play around more. And finally, you’ll have a finished garment or accessory very few people have. It puts an entirely new meaning to the words “made from scratch”. As for the cost… apply some good old fashioned girl maths to it. How much does an evening at the restaurant cost and how many hours of entertainment does that equal to? One evening of spinning is a lot cheaper. How much would you spend if you went to the cinema? (don’t forget to factor in the cinema, fuel costs or public transportation costs to get there, and the obligatory drink with your friend who comes with you because going to the movies all alone isn’t all that usual). How much fibre can you buy for that? How many hours would it take you to spin and ply that yarn? I recently bought myself a braid of Malabrigo Nube yarn. It retailed at a little above 15€. I can’t go to the movies or to a restaurant for just 15€ and this braid is going to take me MUCH longer than one evening to spin up. For ease, I’m not factoring in the price of the spinning wheel. Because that’s going to last for years! Alternative girl math: how much does a skein of already spun 100% wool cost? How much does the same weight in unspun wool cost? Probably less. Win again because you’ll end up ‘needing’ that fibre for your knitting or crocheting anyway. “But you won’t be using those first attempts at spinning!” Erm… Says who? And even then: how much does a class in something else cost? For how many hours? Will you use those skills and will they make you sufficiently proficient, or will you need to practice more? There’s always a way to justify spinning and investing in spinning supplies. And those KZbin videos you’ll be watching to learn more are for free…😇 Happy spinning!

I'll blame you for girl mathing from now on. Kidding of course ;) O my, I just googled the Malabrigo! That's gorgous stuff. Got an end product in mind for it? @@maxime_vredeveld - I’ve got a gorgeous Estonian lace pattern in mind for the Malabrigo. Or, if I spin it a little differently to make a very, very slow gradient, I want to make the Begonia shawl that’s on Ravelry. It’s a oattern that’s been around for a while but it’s gorgeous thanks to the initted on edge. My daughter is trying to convince me to make the crochet Skull shawl. She already has a white one but would love one in reds. But I want something for me… for once. Just about 99% of py work ends up as gifts. I think tgis time I'm going to be selfish. About girl mathing: go ahead and blame me. To anyone close enough to you to gripe about expenses, I'm a total stranger. And I can't hear it anyway! 😇

I am so glad I haven’t bought myself a wheel yet bc omg that is a lot of work just to set it up 😅 I’ll just keep using my drop spindle for now until I get bored of it, which is not anytime soon I hope.

I have squeed so hard! You crochet , make sure you are spinning your yarns the correct direction for crochet yarns. Evie does say something about it in a few videos. If you get into dyeing , chemknits is a good resource.

@@maxime_vredeveld Hi! I am your enabler ;) I am half joking here. In your spinning journey if you ever end up with a yarn you dont like, dyeing over it is an option with wools. Chemknits is an excellent resource if that ever happens. ( Don't look til then or you will be sucked in!)

Marktplaats! A dutch 2nd hand website. I really got lucky here. The seller was just getting rid of the stuff in their parent's house, not knowing they could ask more. Damn that's some expensive shipping there! Worth it though, right?
