@DJ Howard Literally every dinosaur I mentioned before specializes in hunting fish. Spinosaurids weren't the only animals to hunt turtles. Every opportunistic predator hunted turtles at some point. Except maybe the massive dinosaurs. I don't see how a massive 17 meter Spinosaurus, or even a 6 meter Irritator would spend energy to hunting a turtle. It's just not worth it. Now onto pterosaurs. Again, opportunistic predators would only hunt Pterosaurs when the opportunity presents itself and is just in the right circumstances. Again, I don't see how any animal would actively hunt a Pterosaur. It's like a lion trying to hunt an eagle. It's just not worth spending energy on that. Hadrosaurs lived where Spinosaurus was? I can understand if you meant Baryonyx, Siamosaurus, etc. But Hadrosaurs? Hadrosaurs lived at the same time and area as Spinosaurus? Spinosaurus actively hunted (which is what "eating" would imply due to all of the other groups of organisms you listed) Carcharodontosaurus? How? It's literally not worth it. It's an animal that is very dangerous to kill and is only a little bit smaller, but more lethal than Spinosaurus. It's like a lion hunting a hyena. It's not worth the energy t spend trying to hunt an animal that can potentially kill you. They may have had competitions over carcasses, but that never meant they hunted each other. Sorry to burst your bubble, but Spinosaurus might never win a fight against Tyrannosaurus. It's jaw muscles are weak (compared to Tyrannosaurus), has short legs (which means it's less agile). Yes Spinosaurus is bigger, but Tyrannosaurus is more lethal and agile.

@cool person Ummm..okay. So what if I did that? Are you salty just because you realized you aren't as smart as me? You really are honestly pathetic. We can determine the anatomy of each genera by comparing with more complete more closely related individuals, and they look practically the same, yes they do have some characteristics that make them different, but overall, they're the same. Also, what ways do the other genera fall uniqueness when compared to Spinosaurus? They are all piscivorous, they all have crocodilian snouts, they all have conical teeth, they all have relatively short legs and long arms, they all have hook like claws. Where are the differences between all of them again. Is it size? Is Spinosaurus only different because of its size? You do realize the second largest carnivorous dinosaur is also a Spinosaurid (well if it was compared with the size of Spinosaurus). Is it the sail? Some we actually had a sail, like Ichthyovenator (plus, unrelated dinosaurs also had sails like Acrocanthosaurus and Concavenator). So, how is Spinosaurus unique again?
@terra_727
@terra_727 5 жыл бұрын
@cool person Spinosaurus' lifestyle is literally present in every Spinosaurid. Why straight and conical teeth? Why crocodilian-like snouts? Why the pressure sensors in their snouts. Every single thing about the skull of every Spinosaurid tells us that they are specialized fish eaters. Not one is specialized to a different ecological niche and the rest have different ones. What do you mean by the features are more defined? The crocodile-like skull is the same on every genera. The only thing I can think about is the sail. Yes, the sail is very much defined in both Oxalaia and Spinosaurus, but that just makes Spinosaurus lose its uniqueness. Coupled with the fact that many non-dinosaur prehistoric animals such as Dimetrodon, Edaphosaurus, and Platyhistrix all have sails that make their height twice as high if not more than that. Yes, the snout of Spinosaurus may be more narrow (the only reason why the jaws are more narrow is because the snout is bigger, and it would have proportionally longer and more narrow jaws), have efficient alignment at the teeth, and a defined notch. Those little characteristics do make Spinosaurus unique, but I'm talking about the major "unique" traits of Spinosaurus most people talk about. Like it being Ichthyophagous/piscivorous, the sail, and the crocodile-like snout. Little characteristics do make each genera unique, but major characteristics, not so much. The sail on Ichthyovenator is not a hump but a sail, although it has a steep depression right at the illium/ischia (don't remember which one it is) and has a gradual impression and the sail goes down to the tip of the tail (I think). If the sail was for storing every, then it would probably not be that big. It could be for intimidation/attraction or regulating body temperature. I don't know if you understand this, but if the sail was to be there just for the sake of making the animal look big, then that wouldn't make sense. It's not a prey item, so that rules it out. There are no other predators bigger than it, actually it dwarfs most carnivores in its area, so that rules it out. If it's big, just for the sake of being big, then natural selection would take that trait out quickly. It has to be worth the energy to keep up with. Like I stated before, it might be there for intimidation/attraction or regulating body temperature. Yes, you're right, aside from Oxalaia, Spinosaurus is the only dinosaur that has a sail that doubles its height. Notice I said dinosaur. Have you forgotten about Dimetrodon, Edaphosaurus, or Platyhistrix yet?

And Spinosaurus _eats them for lunch!_ In the same area, there was a fish called Mawsonia (it was related to the coelacanth) and it was not only quite big itself (roughly 3 to 6 meters--11 to _20_ feet) but may have made up the _basis_ for Spinosaurus' diet!

As of new, recent evidence found in 2022, this video actually shows the best and most accurate representation of the hunting lifestyle of Spinosaurus, excluding the newly discovered parts of its physical anatomy. With the technique of a typical heron or stork; not a highly specialized, aquatic hunter, but actually a shoreline, wading predator.

The thing that amazes me about the spinosaurus is that it's species was in the grand scheme of things so close to avoiding the extinction of dinosaurs. It's evolution as a species had clearly been travelling in a more aquatic direction and given time it could if fully converted just like the ancestors of mosasaurus. But due to natural global warming its naturally swamp environment became desert and it unfortunately couldn't adapt to the change I environment fast enough

@@ansh6370 That's a convenient trick. But actually is a cover for artistic license they've taken for their movie. But it's difficult to claim artistic license for something that has factual grounds. T. rex and the "Velociraptor" (Deinonychus) are more or less life sized, but for some reason Spinosaurus was beefed up? No, they were promoting the movie and had spinosaurs in around the ballpark size compared to a T. rex actually in that scene. The genetic modification excuse is just a cover.

Just a few weeks ago, a study was released about a new, more complete Spinosaurus fossil they just found. The neural spines on the caudal vertebrae (the bit that sticks upward out of the tail bones) are really tall, so we now think it had a finned, eel-like tail that it used for swimming.

Guys...GUYS...let's think about this: That fish is 8-meters-long. I looked it up, and 8 meters is equal to *26-feet*. The fish is also a sawfish, which is a type of shark. The Spinosaurus managed to eat a 26-foot-long shark like it was just a California roll!

We have skulls and there are A LOT of vertebrae.... No doubt this is the largest theropod.

Which only show it had short legs. Does not mean it can walk on all fours or smaller than we thought (in fact it is still agreed this is the largest theropod ever)
