This is a stylish hat which I'd like to make in two colors, but the instructor moves quickly; I have to work this in short time periods during the winter and hope I can coordinate gloves and a scarf. Thank you!

That was wonderful! I've never seen a really clear demo of the kitchener AND have learned a new way to inc in the purl stitch. It's such a simple thing, but I've not seen purling in the back of the stitch and then making the inc in the front!

I thought this hat design was most interesting. Plymouth came up with a great design, all I did was to show others how to do the ketichner stitch and provisional cast on. I hope you enjoy making this design as much as I do. 1 note, I reduced the cast on amount by 5 stitches. It seems to large and this reduction mades it fit better.

You go girl! You will love doing this hat, it not really hard once you know how to do the cast on and closing the seam. One note, I reduce the amount of cast on stitches by 5. To me it's to big with the amount of stitches Yvonne from Plymouth yarn specifies. And if you want to do a fuzzy border I would reduce by 10 because you will be adding them back on as the decorative border. Good luck, and if you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Stitch Niche : thank you for your response 😃 But the truth is I have no idea how to crochet or knit. Mom tried to teach me, and she tried but I am left handed so we couldn’t find our groove. She’s gone now and I have no one to ask- so I am trying to learn from you tube. I really want my children and (future) grandchildren to have the things passed from me to them like I have of hers. Those projects of mom’s are worth more to me than gold😀😀

The one good think about Knitting is you use both hands. In the beginning for every one, it feels awkward. But with a little practice and some patience, it gets easier. Then all the sudden one day everything clicks. At least that is how I felt when I started and several ladies I have taught told me. The best guidance I can give you is to learn to knit right handed. All patterns are wrote for right handed knitters. You would find it difficult in the beginning trying to figure out the left handed Stitch for some of them. Example. To de a “knit 2 Stitches together” (K2tog) you would do a “Slip 1stitch, Slip another Stitch , Then put them back on the right Needle, then knit them together” (SSK). I have had several ladies come in the store telling me they were left handed knitters, but when they would show me what the problem Stitch was, they were Knitting right handed. So don’t give up. I will do a simple how to start to knit video soon showing the easiest cast on and the basic knit Stitch. Then I will do one that shows the Purl Stitch and how to bind Off. Watch them and take your time, then BINGO! You will be Knitting in no time. These are the first two classes I do to teach a beginner.
@stitchniche23397 жыл бұрын
I did the first in my series of how to knit last night. It was casting on and knit Stitch. Next will be how to Purl and bind Off.

Hello Stitch Niche! A most wonderful tutorial. Thank you. One question however - once you have your parallelogram and have joined the edges using the Kitchener stitch, how do you close off the top? Should we have been decreasing all along somehow?
@stitchniche23398 жыл бұрын
I use a long whip stitch. I insert the needle from underneath to top through middle of a stockinet stich set on the outer edge, then do the next whip stitch from underneath to top through the next reverse Stockinet set. Repeat around. Pull tight, then I do a running stitch through the waves of the stitches that are standing up on top, then turn hat inside out and repeat on inside. This help secure the top.

If needed I will do a quick video showing how I close, but I'm sure you will be able to complete the hat

you start with a provisional cast on of 70 stitches. Then you work 2 rows of stockinette stitch. Continue in stockinette and reverse stockinette stitch. You finish with the Kitchener stitch to join the two sides of the hat together. The video should be able to help you knit the hat from start to finish.
