We love this approach too. And when my son says why are we doing this again? Lol I am happy cause it means he knows how to do it. So going back to the subject so many times it really worked. We love this curriculum. ❤️

I love the spiral Math theory and far prefer it to the uk mastery approach, but what if a child is just starting the good and the beautiful and has been placed at Level 3 (Like my son) and then misses some things from earlier levels that he hasn't yet mastered? Does this matter? Hope this makes sense!

Hello! Please visit our Simply Good and Beautiful Math product page and click on the blue box labeled "Math Placement Test." Although it is encouraged that the child has these important concepts mastered, Simply Good and Beautiful Math 3 reviews all the concepts assessed in the Level 3 placement test. For most children, we suggest that they start on their grade level, unless they are behind in math or advanced. If they are advanced, they will naturally go through the lessons more quickly and move ahead without having any foundational holes! Be sure to also check out the samples and/or free downloads on our website! www.goodandbeautiful.com/products/math-3-course-set-simply-good-and-beautiful-math/

I'm very intrigued on this math curriculum. Currently we have the regular TGTB math but I'm thinking about switching because I had my 4th grader watch the video lesson for lesson 1 and he liked it. It will allow me to work with my 2nd grader & preschooler. However, I was curious why there's only 120 lessons when there's 180 days of school? That will leave me with 2 months of supplementing with other math....

Their math is always meant to be done 4 days per week.

@@HeatherZ36 yes that's what I did last year and still finished with several weeks left. The same with LA and history (history 2x a week).

Hi Melanie! We understand that scheduling can be a challenge! We've created an informative KZbin video with sample schedules that you may find helpful in creating a schedule that works for your family. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3rVhGakZZumbrc You may also find our blog post on Sample Homeschool Schedules helpful. www.goodandbeautiful.com/scheduling/ Our curriculum is created to allow flexibility to allow families to complete math in 4 days a week. If you need additional resources, we also have musical multiplication or other resources that you can use for a fun day of math review. Or many families find that they are able to continue on to the next level when they are completed. You can find more information here: www.goodandbeautiful.com/free-homeschool-science-resources/

Hello! I have a son who is advanced in many math concepts but I discovered he still adds and counts for multiplication. I've been trying to drill him on it but he resists it. How do I know what level I should put him in?
@amydrorbaugh4633 жыл бұрын
There are assessments you can take on the website. But multiplication facts are really emphasized in Math 3 and Math 4. By the time you get to Math 5 it is assumed that your child has mastered their multiplication facts.

Hi Sarah! We are already well into the development of the Math Level 6 course and will continue on up with the levels as fast as we can complete them. At this point, we are planning on doing high school math, but we are not sure of the timeline.

I completely disagree. Being a math person myself I think the explanation given in this video of why spiral is better than mastery is not a proof lol. It’s advertising. It certainly is biased and certainly does not work for everyone, maybe not even a majority. The well known top countries with excellent math people do not use so much spiraling. In fact for example Singapore math is mastery, and it is done based on the Singapore model of teaching math, which has yielded top math minds. I think it all depends on the individual child also. Not only that, but it is only logical that you might be moving on to the next topic all you want at the spiral speed, but if you don’t have the base you will not understand the new topic either. While with the mastery, one can move faster to the next topic which builds on the current one AS SOON AS THE CURRENT ONE IS GRASPED AND TRULY UNDERSTOOD. With too much spiraling you are building a sand castle. I think mastery is necessary, and a bit of spiraling here and there.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts! Although our courses follow a spiral approach, concepts are mastered over time as the child is exposed to them repeatedly and with increasing complexity. This yields a strong foundational knowledge and also allows for retention as the child reviews concepts continually. As you mentioned, the way in which concepts are revisited must be well planned to be effective and our courses do follow a strong method of spiral learning. We are glad to hear you have found what works for your child and family! Thanks again for taking the time to comment.
