He’s Back Baby!!! I cannot explain how happy I am watching you play Spirit Island again. I understand your frustrations with SI but I got nothing but love when SI hits the table!

Thanks for the comment, Gilbert. Even with my frustrations, this game does have a way of making you find new things to love about it pretty regularly. 🙂

Yo dude, great to see you back! Was really glad to see you tackle Sun. It took me a hot minute to figure this guy out, and I actually think he may be the most challenging in the set. I think it's fair to say you didn't get him going here, you said that yourself. I think your content would have benefitted quite a bit from playing a few more times before recording, but I totally get why you didn't and that you're not really feeling NI so far. Not gonna hammer you for your play, just a few comments and insights as always :) 1:06:40 - Thickets is inland only!! Didn't this exact thing come up recently?? :D Focus the Land's Anguish - this was objectively the wrong choice, for 2 reasons: 1) You don't want to consolidate your blight into 1 land, and 2) you already have a slow unique that does shit loads of damage in 1 land. This doesn't give you anything new. You were already starting to get on the back foot, and while you were a turn away from thresholding Instruments, it was still the correct defensive pick. 2:04:54 - "There's really no good answer here" ... Actually, there was. You should Focus + left innate into land 3, clearing it. Then reclaim next turn, which gets your sacred site into 7, and let's you skip that ravage. 2:06:03 - "Always a little behind, relies too much on card draw" - I do sort of agree with this, you definitely take a minute to get going, but I think you're waiting too long to go bottom track. From what I've seen, you need 2 plays to be able to solve enough lands to not get overwhelmed. Going top track pushes you down the rabbit hole of "everything in one land", which is where you're already very strong. Especially in true solo, you can't just solve one land per turn. I've liked going T, B, B, T, T, T, etc 2:08:30 - You didn't even consider repeating Blinding Glare, so I'm thinking you don't know the interaction. You can use this card once to skip an invader action, and then repeat multiple times to gain a bunch of fear. Especially if you hit the threshold, this is one of your spirit's "win conditions". 2:13:15 - Bad matchup? Possibly. You add a lot of blight, which can hurt if not timed correctly. But then again, controlling when & where you add blight (outside ravage) can also be super powerful against durable. I suspect this matchup isn't nearly as bad as it looked in this video (again, not ragging on you dude, but the play wasn't great in this one, sorry!). I'm willing to be wrong though, I can see how it gets tricky. Repeat mechanic - Overall, across 2 games, you've barely repeated any cards. I know with your experience that I don't need to say that's unlikely to be strongly linked to winning ;) I think your approach was generally off - major fishing and hoping for the best just aint it. You've got to find ways to get your presence around the island in groups of 3, lean heavily into your uniques & repeats, and do it that way. G3 (double energy) is a huge part of that, and you barely touched it apart from one of the last turns where it felt a bit like an afterthought. While your second game definitely had a little more of this kind of play than the first, it was still too much about "top track hit and hope". Overall, I'm really happy to hear that you liked this spirit. I think it offers a much more interesting puzzle than the likes of Behemoth or Hearth-Vigil, and I'd love to see it back on your channel again. It's one of the only spirits in the new expansion that isn't just stupid powerful AND stupid obvious, and for that it's one of my favourites now that I've semi-figured it out. One final note - It's a real pity to see your love for this game having taken a big hit. I know you're super busy, and sort of feel "obliged" to get through it all, and the aspects afterwards, but might I suggest taking a step back for a bit to find a way to enjoy and immerse into the content so that it feels less like a chore? I most certainly don't want to less of your SI content, but I also don't want to feel part of a situation where you're "doing it for the fans", and end up resenting the game as a result. That would be super shitty. Peace out dude.

Hey, Daniel! I don’t agree with all your analysis but appreciate the thoughtful comment as always. Turns out a long Spirit Island break does seem in order, intentionally or not - life is life’ing. 🙂 Hope all is well!

@@SoloPlaythroughs that's the beauty of opinions, we're all allowed to be totally right and even totally wrong at the same time. I tend to be quite opinionated with things I'm passionate about (you've no doubt noticed that by now lol) but I'm never arrogant enough to assume I'm just right. I'm more than willing to be wrong at all times, especially with a game as complex as this! It's the discourse that's most interesting to me, not the "being correct". Hope you're good buddy. Good luck with all the life-ing. Hoping to hear of good things in the near future 🫶

Just starting watching as I go to bed, but I wanted to comment on the horizons invader cards quick I use the horizons level 1 invader cards then the SI level 2 and 3 cards. The L1s from horizons look like the ships are just coming up to the island where the L2/3 normal ones look like they are landing and about to explore. Beyond the aesthetic of it, the backgrounds stand out from each other and really key me into "hey, the lvl2s and 3s are starting and things are about to start happening.", it is form and function.
