On our travels we were lucky to meet medicinal herb farmer Lindy Dewey at Spirit Works Trilogy in Whitefish, Montana. Having never met us before, she let us stay on her flourishing medicinal herb farm. I interviewed her and have turned it into a short film, designed so you get to learn about Lindy and her farm/ retreat centre and marvel in the beauty she has created. Lindy has 10 acres of wild woodland and in the centre she has created a triskelion. Three spirals, where the inside of one spiral becomes the outside of another. The triskelion marks the centre of her triving herb farm. She also designed a 16 people retreat house with spa and all the outbuildings.
More about the triskelion, the celtic symbol of the spirals of life.
Lindy’s triskelion was created with a specific purpose in mind. To ground and connect to the Holy Spirit. Each herb that has been planted and has a specific intention. It garden also honors the native American traditional of honoring the four directions. In the east, we have learning. Lindy planted Thyme which prepares the body for learning. Sage is for wisdom and this take you to the south. In the south Feverfew was planted with Sage, because when you have get a head full of knowledge you get headaches! The south is for summer, growth and the south holds the energetics of farming. In the centre Lindy has planted Lady's mantle, a great herb for women's reproductive cycle at all stages of life. This plant honors the feminine relationship with Gaia. Rosa Rugosa is also incorporated becoming the outer spiral of the north west and this plant holds the energetics of farming. Its petals and hips are both harvested and it commands respect with its thorns and needs constant attention, harvest and pruning, whilst holding the energetics of love. In the north west, winter and harvest time, a time for building health. In the centre is chamomile for calming the nervous system and this turns into lavender, which is an often an entry herb for the plant curious. In the north is french tarragon, white sage and a rainbow of different currents.
She's open to visitors, volunteers and apprentices and you can reach her through the Spirit Works Trilogy website:

I have a little over 5 acres in North Carolina with plans to have a peaceful life gardening, fresh foods, herbs and medicinal herbs for my personal consumption. The source of the enormous capital this place required has not been explained. It appears to have become a very thriving business venture. That is not for me. I have been doing research to design the layout of the plants. I have done well with plants all my life, respecting the individual needs of each plant. If anyone who has experience laying out such a farm, I should would appreciate a conversation and/or a visit. I vision a Homestead I can manage alone.

Hey Donnie, Lindy was actually really resourceful when building the farm. I’m sorry that’s not shown in the film. If you seed save and you make lots of your own compost using resources in your community, you can make a garden for nothing with the land you have. Good luck! I hope someone reaches out to help you.

I have a plot. I'd love to grow a microcosm of this. Wondering if you can advise me what to grow. I'm in South Africa

Tulsi, chamomile, calendula, lemon balm are all easy ones to start with and very rewarding. You’ve probably got some native herbs that grow well. I’ll do some research for you.
