Can we take a moment to applaud and appreciate Courtney’s progression and evolution from her days in IWABO to now? In my opinion she might be the best female metal vocalist out there right now, Tatiana from Jinjer is certainly close up there but Courtney just edges it for me

Dude I’ve been absolutely infatuated with her one take of this song. Probably one of the best vocalists of all time, that ability to switch between cleans and screams so easily is what gives her that edge for me. She’s insanely attractive as well, but that voice is beyond incredible

Courtney's screams are just so perfect for the sound they're trying to produce. She is so technically amazing at them and the band knows how to put them in at the perfect time with how the music is progressing. It's incredible how the songs are composed. She asks for your attention and demands it with her screams. I just love it.
@cain13493 жыл бұрын
i love the point you made about courtney's screams being straight to the point and done well- her voice is so full of body, she could go nuts if she wanted to (on belcarra she goes higher on the "i was alive" parts and its SO good) but i love how her technique is so straightforward and still powerful
@TheButterflyChaos3 жыл бұрын
Yes! She does what's appropriate for the song and what gets the emotion through. Sometimes a lot of embellishment would just not be as effective. Would embellishment make "I have the power of a dying Sun" hit harder? Nah.
@iamanactualcat3 жыл бұрын
I'll quote Courtney directly from twitter: "Circle With Me is our love letter to Metalcore" They killed it and I can't stop listening to the song but for skeptics, this is not necessarily the sound they are going to default to, sice when have they ever defaulted to something anyway.
@leatherfacelove19813 жыл бұрын
I love that you brought that up at the end. The only way that I can think to describe it is that she yells instead of screaming which I have never heard before either, and fucking love! And then the scream right after is one of the best things that has ever passed through my eardrums. The way that it transition to the end is just incredible.

I watched another channel react to this and the guy spent the entire video just trashing it for NO GODDAMN REASON. He tried so hard to make it feel like this wasn't Spiritbox anymore because he cried listening to "Constance" and "Holy Roller" shocked him but this was just lack luster and called it "shit". So...naturally...he received so much hate and dislikes that he deleted the video. Mind you this dude has no musical background or experience no he obviously didn't know what he was talking about. This video? *chefs kiss* Excellent analysis and open mindedness. I really like how you pick up and explain the most subtle vocal flairs she has and I find it super interesting. Love your videos. I know little about singing but I always learn something new. The use of syllables in 'altar' is also used in 'martyr'. I suppose it could be thought of as an appoggiatura since the second syllable is in anticipation for the harmonic note on the final. Since we're talking about words it's just a melisma.
