There's way more to writing music than technicality... It's about feel, and the emotion that is transferred through the instrument. Having said that, he is amazing at both. I agree with you 100%

Somebody else said it first, but it's like that closing riff sonically simulates the gradual shutting down of the human brain during illnesses like dementia. Just so abrasive and violent, like the body is going into a panic.

i thoguht that ending riff was just damn scary and i get chills everytime. its so amazing how he's able to portray the horrific effects of dementia into music

That chord shape you play (C#, G#, A and E) during the second run of the verse at the 2:18 mark is PURE PAIN!!! My wrist and fingers will never forgive me for trying to learn this song! I'm going to stick with it though! Love you guys though!!

He is a freaking genius. I love those bends he does on one string in the middle of strumming chords in the chorus. He does it in Secret Garden too. And that very last riff, my god I did not realize it was that dirty. Just adds and extra layer to the intensity of that outro mimicking the chaos of the end of one's life, but then the peace at the end, like death finally came and peace is achieved, the static ends too. Incredible.

I always felt like the ending mimics her being alive, but drowning in dementia until she sinks into her “peaceful place” to help her mentally survive In the video, it’s where she sees her husband too. So I thought that was the intention

It was cool seeing how Mike utilized his knobs and switches in this song as well as the layering of his guitar melody. I would love to see Bill do a play through of this song as well.

Simply the detail within this composition is extraordinary. Even with out the vocals/lyrics it tells a story all by itself. Bravo. PS: Courtney LaPlante is literally the icing on the cake and Dylan deserves a standing ovation for the video, what a piece of art. One of 3 songs ever written that successfully made me cry but in this case it was a positive almost closure type emotional release for me. Thank you!

One of the things that I love about this band, and there are many, is the fact that even without the amazing vocals and the lyrical aspect that makes them great song writers and musicians, the instrumental is amazing. You could easy be an instrumental band. The atmospheric melodies are reminiscent to bands like Widek and Owane. And I love that so much. I absolutely love everything about Spiritbox.

Despite not being a guitarist or any kind of musician, that was awesome. Love Mike's music. Spiritbox are my best musical discovery for quite some time. I had a ticket for Manchester - about 4 days after the tour was cancelled.

This must be why I fell in love with their sound from the first time I heard them, Diamond Eyes is my favorite Deftones album (and This Place is Death is the best song in the history of humanity lol). Weird I haven't come to this conclusion earlier. Huh.

Mike has become one of my favorite musicians. The guitar work in their songs is awesome, I wish I had the ability to play as awesome as he does. Spirit box quickly become one of my favorite bands last year and I hope I can catch them live soon.

Dementia is one of the worst things ever. There is nothing worse that loosing your memory and the touch with reality. It’s truly devastating. That song captures that state of mind perfectly
