Learn more about this film: www.gilhodgesfilm.com
Watch this new documentary on the incredible career and inspiring life of Gil Hodges, a baseball legend who was one of the greatest first basemen to play the game. He helped win world championships as a player for the Brooklyn Dodgers and the Los Angeles Dodgers, and as manager of the 1969 New York "Miracle Mets." But despite all his impressive baseball statistics and accolades and his humble example of leadership off the field, Gil Hodges is still not enshrined in the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
From his upbringing in rural Indiana to his WWII military service, from his illustrious baseball career on two coasts to his devoted family life as a husband and father, this documentary will introduce you to a true hero who deserves to be honored among baseball's greatest.
On December 5, Gil Hodges gets another shot at Cooperstown glory through a special "Golden Days Era" committee vote. Share this film and post your support on social media using the hashtag #GilHodgesHOF.

MLB did Hodges dirty by waiting until 50 years after he died before they inducted him into the Hall Of Fame. Sadly both Gil's widow and Vin Scully both died shortly after Hodges' induction.

He was the man who gave up on Amos Otis, and refused to let the Mets send Jim McAndrew to the Angels in the Fregosi deal, and had the Mets offer Ryan instead! Hodges set the franchise back a decade! Take away the ONE season where the Baseball Gods smiled on the Mets and his record managing the team is below .500!

Wow! This was great. Gil certainly belongs in the Hall of Fame. Numbers have been inflated in recent years, but he was number 10 all time career HR leader at end of his career. Best fielding 1B in baseball. Tremendous teammate whose integrity reflected well on his team and all of baseball. His son Gil Jr is a chip off the old block, and I am sure his dad is quite proud of him.

The DH has made a mockery of HR numbers. Prior to the 1970s, not one single 400 HR hitter was NOT in the HOF. To even get close to that number was an automatic ticket to the Hall. Now, you have guys who play for 6, 7, 10 years beyond their usefulness as a fielder, hitting 500 HRs! It's a total joke.

I went to grammar school for three years with Gil Hodges Jr. at the former Our Lady Help of Christians School and lived across the street from the family on East 32nd Street. My father and I were ushers at his wake and funeral. Gil Sr. use to attend the 9 am mass on Sunday morning in the basement church. He would arrive in time for mass and my Dad would pull out a folding chair for Gil to sit at the end of the last pew in the back of the church so he could stretch out his knees in the aisle. Gil would quietly get up just before mass was over so he could walk up the stairs and get onto Avenue M before his fellow parishoners could begin to come up the stairs. We knew he was famous and beloved in Brooklyn and our parish, but to us, he was just our neighbor. He is the only non priest or religious nun or brother, that I have heard of who laid out in a Catholic church for their wake. The first night of his wake was in a funeral home. I remember when Gil's brother came up to introduce himself before the people were allowed into the church. I remember as if it was today when the Daily News interviewed me for an estimation as to how many people had come into the wake. We can only imagine how successful the Mets would have been in the 70s and 80s and maybe the 90s with Gil at the helm. After watching this wonderful film and hearing my former classmate talk about his Dad and seeing the who's who at his funeral, one has to wonder why Gil is not in the Baseball Hall of Fame. We know from watching the video, he definetly in the Ultimate Hall of Fame in heaven.

I live no less that 50 feet from Gils home in Petersburg, Indiana. Nobody lives there anymore, but it is maintained and upkeep is done often by whoever owns it now. My Uncle mowed the lawn for Gils mother for years, and has lots of Gil memorabilia. My uncle is now an artist that helped erect a large mural here in Petersburg dedicated to Gil. He even put me in the stands of the painting along with many locals. It's a wonderful painting/dedication to Gil. Our little league for 40 plus years has had a team named "Hodges Dodgers". Everybody wanted on that team, still do.

My favorite Dodgers as a kid growing up in L.A. were Koufax, Drysdale, "The Duke," and Gil Hodges - in that order. With absolutely no disrespect to Bill Mazeroski, Harold Baines, and other "borderline Hall of Famers" who made it, I have been an ANGRY CAMPER for decades at the Hall of Fame Committee for their ommission of Gil Hodges. Now, as tears roll down my face, he can continue his celebration in Heaven with Jackie, Pee Wee, "Big D," Alston, Lasorda, and other Dodger Blue in the Sky! "Say a prayer for Gil Hodges." (Classic and that's Brooklyn for you)

Holy Cow! Until seeing this film, I had no idea Gil Hodges was NOT in the Hall of Fame. How is that even possible? He was one of the best hitters in a decade dominated by pitching, and was one of the greatest fielders of all time. I could understand if he got overlooked for playing in a small market town. Fantastic job on this! So great to see a well produced documentary bringing attention to the Hall of Fame case of Gil Hodges. Hopefully this can help bring some attention to the cause and see Gil at long last elected this December. You know, when I see so many people rallying behind the cause of a guy whose career came to an end nearly 50 years ago and when I see recent headlines of performance enhancing drugs and trash can scandals in Major League Baseball, it makes me think the Hall of Fame needs Gil Hodges more than Hodges needed the Hall of Fame. Despite the fact he has yet to be elected, he is still loved and remembered by a wide array of people some like myself born years after he sadly passed who never even had the chance to see him play, but recognize nonetheless the character, commitment and talent that defined Gil Hodges. He played the game the right way and never will a time come when that simple fact won't be recognized by the fans of the game.

As a lifelong Dodger fan and resident Hoosier in southern Indiana, I have a very biased opinion about Gil Hodges: Put him in the Hall, for crying out loud! Understandably, New York during his career was riddled with baseball talent. Gil not only thrived, but stood out during that era. Then, returning as manager of the hopeless Mets, he guided them to their "Miracle" season in 1969. If a heart attack had not cut short his managerial career, we may be talking more about his managing and not just his playing.

My elder brother and I consider ourselves especially blest to have attended so many games at Ebbets Field. We could see and hear the players: Duke Snider, Pee Wee Reese, Carl Furillo, Junior Gilliam, Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella, Johnny Podres, Clem Labine, Carl Erskine, Gil Hodges, and others. And never once can we recall having seen Gil argue with an umpire. We so admired those men in unique ways and Gil in his. His faith, his fidelity to family, and his conduct, these we tried to emulate. It infuriates me that Gil’s widow Joan, now 98, has been denied her husband’s acceptance into the Hall of fame for all this time until now. Nonetheless, I take solace in Gil’s passing on the Solemnity of the Resurrection of the Lord, Easter Sunday. How fitting. I hope a hint from Heaven.

Total injustice Hodges has gone through. Gil Hodges should’ve been elected to the Hall of Fame 28 years ago by the Veterans committee , when he had enough votes (12) for enshrinement. However, Ted Williams disallowed Roy Campanella‘s vote because Campanella was sick and unable to vote in person, keeping Hodges out.

Only part that’s not factual is Vin Scully’s claim that he didn’t play well but spoke well in the 1959 World Series…Gil Hodges was 9 for 23 in the series for a .391 batting average…the highest of any player in that series and would have won MVP if not for his pitcher teammate Larry Sherry

Hodges set the Mets back a decade by giving up on Amos Otis and Nolan Ryan! Take away the one season where literally everything went the Mets way, and he had a losing record as Mets manager.. and I'm not holding his poor record managing a bad Senators team against him. As a player, he was a Hall of Famer no doubt. And it's a shame it took so long. But as a Mets fan I don't get all the praise he gets as a manager. 1969 was ONE season!
