Michael Spillane wrote a song called "Spirits of Love" on the occasion of his son Julian Sky Spillane's birth on Jan 25th, 1987 at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal. It was the coldest night of the year to that date. I remember looking out the window to see the mountains of steam and clouds, frozen in the pre-dawn light and marveling at how our love filled union had produced this miracle of a baby. Our lives were forever enriched by this addition to our little family. Michael was so proud of Julian and his love was so great. Love not limited by time, space or death, truly the "spirit of love".
We recorded it in Dorval at Fred Grindley Jr's studio not long after his birth.
Michael is one of the most romantic writers I have ever known, and there is a true celebration of love in this song, for his son, for humanity and for the spirit world so close to his Welsh and Irish roots.
